Senior Bowl Thread

Weigh ins are in.

QBs largely suck, size-wise. Logan Thomas looks like a Greek god, though.

Tajh Boyd, 6'0", 222, 9 3/8" hand
Derek Carr, 6'2", 215, 9 1/8" hand
Aaron Murray, 6'0", 201, 9 1/8" hand
Logan Thomas, 6'5", 250 lbs, 10 3/4" hand

There were a few other guys as well, but they were all short tiny guys like Boyd, Carr, and Murray.

Sheesh. No physicality in the QBs this year.

That second video of Ward is what I want to see from our defense. 15 yard penalties are worth scaring the shit out of receivers the rest of the game. Gator arms over the middle fail a lot of 3rd down conversions.

#Michiganstate Safety Isaiah Lewis catches the ball very naturally. Could be a nice developmental one deep safety

Quote:
Isaiah Lewis, S, Michigan State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 205.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Projected Round (2014): 5-7.
12/21/13: Lewis has 54 tackles, two interceptions and eight passes batted in 2013. He has been a solid defender for the Spartans.

8/18/13: Lewis was an All-Big Ten honorable mention last year after he totaled 80 tackles with six passes broken up and two interceptions. Lewis entered the starting lineup in 2011 and had a quality season for the Spartans. The sophomore was a Second-Team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and media. He totaled 74 tackles with four interceptions, three passes broken up and 2.5 tackles for a loss. Lewis formed a nice duo with Trenton Robinson that year.

Here's Lewis vs Stanford, 2014 Rose Bowl game.

Kind of annoying trying to watch the coverage ability of DBs vs Stanford though, they run way too damn much, lol. Not sure if Isaiah Lewis would be much of an upgrade in the speed department over Kendrick Lewis though. He takes good angles for the most part but gets burned deep by a TE in single coverage against Stanford.

Oh I'd absolutely prefer Marquise Lee, but I don't see how he makes it out of the top 15. Our best hope is if Ebron somehow falls. I think we could use a gamebreaking tight end almost as much as a WR.

From what I've seen....he's a 3rd draft day kind of guy. Like the tweet said....a developmental safety. The areas that he'd improve over Lewis is his ability to hit and he takes better angles. He wouldn't be starting in his first couple of years....so he'd have time to work on his game.

The only thing is, the more I look at these safeties the more I'm convinced that the answer has to come from in-house or FA next season. The only potential 3rd rounder I've seen who can come in and contribute right away is Jimmie Ward, and that's because of his special teams ability and ability to cover in the slot. None of these guys will honestly be an upgrade over Abdullah as rookies, barring some miracle rookie season like Byrd had in Buffalo. I'm also sure that the coaching staff would be more inclined to give Sanders Commings a shot at the starting FS position before they would turn to a mid-round rookie. Certainly can't be worse than Lewis though, lol.

Oh I agree. I kind of view the safety position as one position instead of FS vs SS. So, I would re-sign Abdullah and draft a safety in the middle rounds.....maybe someone like Lewis. Roll with Berry, Abdullah, Commings and Lewis next season. That's 4 safeties that can all hit and cover.

Have two guys with almost no experience scares me a bit (I mean A LOT) but I'm intrigued by upside of this possibility. It would seem to me that a big-time play maker would be the preferred route @ 23 be it a WR or TE.

Well, it would certainly be the closest you can get to a 'sure' impact from any of the positions as far as potential rookie starters go. But in the Andy Reid system, rookies don't often make significant contributions in their first year outside of Desean Jackson.

Today while I was watching the Sr Bowl practice they brought up having a Jr Bowl for all the underclassman who declare for the draft since there is so many. I thought it was an interesting idea.

My Idea would be to change the calendar for the Combine and have it earlier in the year and then take the players from there and have an NFL Combine Bowl Series where they break up into 4 teams and play two different games. Each team plays one game. It could be great evaluation process for the NFL.

Will never happen, at least with the leagues hand in the cookie jar. I don't think they want to do anything to help out early entrees more than they have.

Well, the problem is that there just aren't enough roster spots to absorb all of those new players into the league without screwing over a lot of veterans. Those who make their living off of special teams play or are fringe starters would have little to no negotiation power.

Logan Thomas is a very good TE prospect. Should be a 6th round bargain. QB not so much.
