Evan Mathis placed on Eagles trade block

DeSean Jackson has some company on the Philadelphia Eagles' trade block.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the Eagles have made it known that Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis is available via trade, per a source informed of the situation. Rapoport adds that Mathis has been placed on the trade block due to his high salary of $5.15 million due in 2014, and the 32-year-old is seeking a new deal after a stellar campaign last season.

At the NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla., coach Chip Kelly said he hasn't talked to Mathis yet, per the The Philadelphia Inquirer. Rapoport reported that Kelly says he's not worried about Mathis, calling the All-Pro a "lunch-pail guy."

With Mathis joining Jackson, another Pro Bowl player, on Philadelphia's trade block, it seems to be a transition period for the Eagles' offense.

So far this offseason the NFC East champions lost Week 1 starter Michael Vick to the New York Jets in free agency, acquired the speedy Darren Sproles for a fifth-round draft pick and have their sights set on former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. The Eagles did manage to hold onto receivers Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper.

Drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, Mathis has started all 16 games the past two seasons for the Eagles.

Hmmm. Did it ever occur to you that if I meant 1st, I would have just said 1st? And if I was dead set on a high priced, 1st round draft pick, I wouldn't have mentioned the second round of free agency? Get out of here with that BS.

Well now, it doesn't really matter what you consider or don't consider since you weren't the one who posted it, does it? Feel free to ask clarifying questions in the future.

As loaded as this draft is I could see the NFL having a lot more post-draft cuts than normal...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Alex played great with:

1) Great O line
2) Great TE he could throw two between the hashes.
3) Great defense.

We have:

1) Piss poor and unproven at TE.
2) Piss poor or average on the OL.
3) Defense that desperately needs help in the secondary...

I wasn't sure whether I should say 1st-4th or 1st-5th so I said "early-ish". Frankly, I don't care if we find our guard in the UDFA pool as long as we like the guy we end up with enough to have confidence in him.

Besides that, just because we don't have a 2nd rounder today doesn't mean we won't have one on the second day of the draft.

But you don't want to invest in the OL in the first.

What were Alex's numbers again in that playoff loss to the Colts without our best weapons......

This isn't the type of move KC makes unless it's a 9ers QB.

If only Hunt had a little bit more Davis in him!

Until Alex does it again, that's called a statistical outlier.

No way.

I know the guy is an all pro quality player, but him asking for a new deal when the big money of his contract is coming up is a red flag and given his age, he could fall off a cliff at any time.

You know what I'd like to see them do?

Call Brian Waters and see how he is healing and if he's interested in signing a 1 year deal and then call Richie Incognito and offer him a 2 year deal.

That would solidify the OL for next year and give the backups a couple quality veterans to learn the tricks of the trade from while not impacting the cap at all.

Fisher/???
Waters/Allen
Hudson/Kush
Incognito/Johnson
Stephenson/???
