The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

If we could pick up a bevvy of picks, trade back into the 2nd and still come away with a T who's ceiling is as high as anyone in this draft's (including the beloved Joeckel), I'd be just fine with all the maneuvering at that point.

There's a much higher risk that Watson becomes the next Alex Barron, but if you get him plus a bunch of picks, the risk is worth the reward. I would be very hesitant to trade behind the Bears if that were my plan, though.

Sure looks like it.

It appears that any trade-down scenario will involve teams looking for a LT at this point, oddly enough. So suddenly the Chiefs bluff does make sense here.

And teams like the Jags, Raiders, Eagles and Lions being fairly noncommittal on the T search has also been a pretty big boost in that regard.

Suddenly a team that really wants a T is going to have to move up to 3 to ensure it and really, there is a gap between the top 2 and Johnson in terms of risk, so you probably want to push yourself all the way up to 2 at worst.

And at the package it would cost to move up to 2, might as well go to 1 and get the guy you really want instead of KC's leftovers.

If this were the Packers or Steelers, it would work out perfect for them. As it is the Chiefs, we'll end up tripping over our dicks and nothing will go right. That said, there's still that outside possibility that God will oversleep tomorrow and something good might actually happen to this forlorn ****ing franchise.

I've said all along everyone's mocked us an OT in rd 1 ever since drafting Albert. Now with his situation, I'll say it's likely although I don't agree.

I'm going to say that's quite a bit more likely than the NFL suddenly having 10 HOF caliber LTs bouncing around.

Well shit, with all these All Pro caliber OL flooding the NFL, clearly our smartest move is to take Jordan so we can bring 3 legit QB killers from anywhere we want to line them up since so many teams are going to have these elite protectors covering their QB's back!
