Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

See, two can play...

Chiefs traded second-round pick, the second pick in the second round, to SF. Niners also got another conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

We already know the terms of the deal i don't know why this is hard for some.

I just don't get what the Chiefs are trying to do. I'll be happy with more clarity. Trade for a game manager type QB who doesn't like to throw the ball deep. However, we have a coach who prefers to throw and likes to stretch the field. One of them is going to have to change, which one is it going to be?

Also, don't understand why you would possibly let Albert walk with a veteran QB in place. Wouldn't you want the proven guy protecting your new QB's back? Instead, they may roll the dice and pick a LT at #1 overall. Why? To save a few million? Bad back for Albert?

At this point, I hope they have a plan...cause I'm not seeing it right now. The moves just seem awfully random right now. Hope I'm wrong!

He was put in an offense where he literally couldn't take any risks. That's why you saw Kaepernick throw more passes over 20 yards in 7 games than Smith did in 9. That's why Smith only threw 36 passes over 20 yards the whole 2011 season.

BECAUSE THEY DON'T TRUST HIM TO THROW INTERMEDIATE OR DEEP PASSES!

Even Kaepernick only had one 300 yard game, the SB.

If so, you are an idiot.
He had 4 games over 230 yards in the regular season alone. 7 including the post season. Thats more than Alex Smith had in 2011 and 2012 combined! Thanks for playing.

Quick, name starting QBs in the NFL you'd take Alex Smith over.
Weeden, Tannehill, Ponder, Gabbert/Henne, Palmer, Kolb, Fitzpatrick, Sanchez, Locker, Schaub, maybe Freeman, not a big Bradford fan either.

Crabtree can catch. Vernon Davis can't.

Vernon Davis's only weakness is that he can't catch passes in his hands above his pads. You will see many highlights from Vernon Davis where he leaps to catch balls so that he can trap them on his chest. He tends to drop passes on his hands that he can't trap against his body.

Crabtree has the ability to catch Kaepernick's laser passes in his hands above the pads.

Basically, Kaepernick got tired of Vernon Davis dropping his laser passes and started looking for Crabtree first.

So you'd take 11 QBs over him. That would mean he's the 21st best starting QB in the league. So he's below average. Thanks for proving my point.

It's a small sample size but Alex Smith is actually statistically up there with the best in the league in long ball percentage and other categories. He just hardly throws them. Alex never took the chances because he "manages" the game so well at the line, he already knows where he's going with the ball a majority of the time. Thus the 70% completion. I feel this is a part of Alex's game that is deeply under estimated. He isn't the most naturally gifted QB, but he is a very very smart QB.

I'll see if I can find that article with Alex and his deep ball stats. Again they are up there with the best, but again he hardly throws them. I'm curious to see if how does now that he probably will be throwing more than 25 attempts. He will have more chances to take with Reid.

I'm sure those are the terms on the Chiefs end.

What I was told that the compensation coming back with Smith wasn't done. Now that could turn out to be nothing, and I don't expect a swap of second rounders, but I'd be shocked if they didn't get anything else from SF.

Frank Gore sucks now?

The 2011 49ers are Clark Hunts wet dream.

An OL full of first rounders...a game manager QB...one of the best defenses in the NFL...

Hopefully, Reid does what he was brought here to do...get this team a franchise quarterback..not hitch the wagon to the next game manager failure that this team is all to familiar with.

What does Alex Smith give us that Kyle Orton or Matt Moore couldn't...while keeping our draft picks?
