This is why I decided to forego getting a system at launch this time. Hope Sony's .04% estimate is true, but given the number of high profile failures, I'm doubting it. Sounds like Microsoft's under reported numbers from last generation.
I'd be curious as to what the actual issues are that are causing the failures. It could just be the normal failure stuff that happens with all electronics. But, if it's a similar issue between the already failed consoles, that could lead to bigger issues.

But, like you said - after my 3 PS2's that I had to get on launch day & then all the trouble everyone had with the 360's, I'm like you & waiting for all the shit to work itself out.

I can't imagine there being much of a difference in hardware though. At this point, it is too early to really be concerned, but I'm definitely curious. This news, plus the earlier news about lack of network streaming, is pushing me back in the direction of Xbox after I had decided to go the other way this time around.

Well, given common failure rates for devices of this type, expecting better out of the XBox One, especially given Microsoft's track record, is probably a waste of time. It's not like there have been hundreds of reports that all share a common cause - there's been a few dozen reports and the issues are multitude. Sounds like the normal course for consumer electronics.

I'm not sure I understand the network streaming comment but is that really something that's at the very top of your list?

I expect there to be issues with the new Xbox as well, hence why I'm waiting for everything to sort itself out. And yes, network streaming is extremely important to me. Hell, these days I use my Xbox more for movie and music streaming than I do gaming. I stream music through it daily and movies or tv shows fairly frequently as well. Granted, my TV, receiver, and Blu-ray all have the functionality, but their interfaces are slower and just plain wonkier.

Ah, I see.

That's the one reason I WON'T be getting an XBox One - I don't want it to be the centerpiece of my entertainment center.

Combine that with the fact that I have to pay Netflix AND Microsoft in order to use Netflix and I just won't own one.

Tired of Microsoft nickel and dining me.

Meh, $4 a month for a superior online experience has never bothered me. Besides, the only reason Sony doesnt do that stuff YET, is because they were playing from behind last generation. Don't get me wrong, I'm no MS fanboy, but historically their product has better suited my wants and needs. As I said, I was prepared to go Sony this time around, and I still may, but I have been given pause of late.

I guess I don't see the superior online experience. I see a more populated online user base that's still primarily made up of foul-mouthed 13 year olds. Then again, I'm not an avid online gamer. I prefer SP games mostly. For the most part, I played MP on XBox to get a random achievement here or there. Totally not worth $4 a month especially when I can do that for free on the PS3.

And as of right now, Sony hasn't changed much. They're going to start charging for online gaming perhaps but Netflix, Gaikai streaming, and things that I might actually use are still going to be free.

The "as of right now" is the key part. If a company can get away with it, they will. It's bad business if they don't. I could never get online with a PS3. Those same foul mouthed 13 year olds were there too. Thankfully Xbox had party chat and that alone was worth $4. 7 years later, the PS4 is finally implementing it, though I've heard it has had some problems. I'm sure they'll get it straightened out eventually though. I would NEVER even consider a PS4 if they hadn't added that functionality.

For you, who seems to play more single player than online, I understand that position. But, there are a ton of people that are whining about it being behind the pay wall. Unless someone is trying to buy a 360/One specifically to watch Netflix - in which case they are an idiot - I just never have seen the issue with having to have a gold level acct to do that stuff.

Every other device in my entertainment center, including my TV, has the ability to stream Netflix. Microsoft wants me to make the XBox the center of my entertainment experience but they also want to charge me for features that I can already use on other devices, for free.

It's pretty simple. If you're an avid online gamer, you already have a Gold account and therefore, being able to use Netflix is essentially a "value add".

For those of us who don't play online, having to pay for Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, after we've already paid for them once, feels like being fleeced.

I completely see your point for people that don't play online. I wasn't referencing you specifically in my post. Just those out there that are going to buy a gold level acct for both systems and are still crying about it being behind a paywall.

Me, I play both the SP & the MP for 95% of games I buy so I'm obviously going to have gold or the PS version. No way would I pay MS just to watch Netflix/Hulu/etc. Waste of the system.
