It's still early and as long as Osweiler is starting there's always a chance he could figure it out, but the guy started in less than half the games Cassel did on a SB winning team built on their defense and got $9M more guaranteed money. As it stands I have to throw my Chiefs bias out the window and go with Osweiler.

Jay Cutler's deal makes both look good in comparison

If Pioli doesn't jam Cassel down our throats way past the point he should of quit it wouldn't have been near as bad.

As notorious said, Cassel seemed worse by the end because the FO refused to bench him or admit that he was a problem. His 27-7 (9) season was highly regarded at the time, though.
But Os was benched for a guy with half an arm. Can't recall a guy getting a big contract after that.

At least there was some investment into Osweiler, he was a 2nd round pick in the draft and ACTUALLY PLAYED FOOTBALL IN COLLEGE and was somewhat a notable prospect. So at one point, at least as a college athlete, he had SOMETHING of talent.
Cassel didn't do anything, didn't throw single touchdown in 4 years in college. Just happened to be riding the coat tails of one of the best college teams ever assembled by Pete Carroll. His buddy Bill takes him in the 7th as a what the heck Nobody ever expected Tom Brady's knee to be blown out by BERNIE f'n POLLARD that year and Cassel being flung into a lineup that was basically Super Bowl lock with Brady. Then of course, we get a Good Ole Boy from the Pats Tree and since the NFL is a good ole boys league, we get the funnel of Patriots fraud leftovers for 4 miserable years. All because Tom Brady kept way too many coaches and front office guys employed in the NFL for the last almost 20 years. Without Brady they would all be terrible, and they have all proved that for the most part. So it's Cassel, and all that fraud crap that people bought into. Osweiler didn't bring anything with him. He didn't bring Osweiler fans at Texans Planet, He didn't bring washed up coordinators or fraud general managers. He didn't bring over the hill veterans from his previous team. He just brought himself. He might suck, but he has no connections to any club like Cassel had that kept him employed AND HAS KEPT HIM EMPLOYED for the last 10 years going from team to team happy to just rob a paycheck. There should really be a 30 for 30 on Cassel and all the things that had to go right from him to get the contract/situation he got. |

The Texans had made the playoffs with pretty poor qb play already, so they didn't need a franchising saving player. I don't imagine the fans could stomach another year of falling short with journeymen retread QBs. They had to make a move.
It really just demonstrates how difficult it is to fix your team when qb is the problem. It's the reason teams have no choice to pay up for the Jay Cutlers of the league. As much as fans know that Cutler will never get it done, front offices know that Cutler is better than the alternative. I still don't understand why qbotf isn't a major focus of every team in the league year after year. It's the hardest void to fill, so teams should be aggressively trying to to find that guy at all times.
