Sound bar for TV?

Need a decent sound bar for our TV. Anything that has ok sound without having to hookup multiple speakers. Low profile would help based on our setup but I suppose we could always elevate the TV on a box.

Thoughts?

If you're truly skeeved by long wires, put off by the price of wireless, and intimidated by fishing wires inside walls, I still would suggest 3.1 over just stereo. Getting dialog into a dedicated center channel keeps it from sounding like you're watching TV in a stadium.

Did you see the link of the wireless rear speaker from some companies like Sony and Samsung I posted a few posts back to alleviate the wire running to the back of your seating? I know other companies probably make wireless rear speakers too, those are just the few I found. Any idea the reliability of the wireless connection for those back speakers? That might be a better option for me to spend a bit more up front for ease of installation. I'm just not comfortable routing wire under carpet or in walls and doing that myself.

Look close, some of the 'wireless' solutions are a wireless receiver that plugs into a wall socket in the back of the room, from which you still run wires to the speakers in back.

Which is fine if it works for you, but don't necessarily think you just set a speaker anywhere and it magically starts playing.

Right but I could put that receiver behind the couch by the wall socket and run the two back speaker wires along the baseboard and up the wall on both sides of the sectional and they'd wouldn't be going across a walking area, right? That's how they work? Run speaker wires from that receiver to the speakers I have behind the couch?

Yeah, just wanted to make sure you knew that was a possibility in their definition of wireless.

Like I said, might work perfectly for you, might piss you right off. Better to know.

Wish I could be more help on specific models, but I've been satisfied with my setup for some time now and haven't been out to audition other options, certainly not in the HTIB area. My speakers and amp/receiver are much bigger, along the lines of Bat Cave dude's srvy linked to above. floorstanders and full sized bookshelf surrounds, etc.

My speakers are the leftmost [surround] and rightmost [mains]. The mains stand 4 1/2 feet tall and go to 25Hz flat by themselves.

Just explaining why I haven't given much input on specific models.

I know and thanks for your help. It is appreciated and thanks for not laughing at me. I really know nothing about stuff like this.

I've got plenty to research it seems.

My wife's want for a new bed got in the way of this but we're not back on getting something. The TVs speakers are rattling a bit when up loud so we can hear the programming with the AC running not stop in this inferno.

I am really looking at getting the Sony 5.1 Blu ray setup with wireless rear speakers.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BDV-N7100...owViewpoints=0

I understand these rear speakers do have wires which go to the adapter behind our couch but I won't have to run wires to the front system across the walkway, so that's a huge plus. Also, we don't own a smart TV. We bought a discounted Samsung as our last TV purchase and we run Netflix/Amazon streaming through the PS3, which has worked fine. However, if we get the bundle mentioned above, we would be able to stream through the Sony blu-ray player instead and move the PS3 to the bedroom and be able to stream from there as well as we currently can't stream on that TV. I know I am paying more for the convenience but it has pretty good reviews and I think will work just fine for us without hating the sounds quality of a cheaper unit.

Wife tried to jump on a $200 2.1 Onko system on woot this morning but it's size doesn't look like it would work for us so I am trying to convince her that spending a bit more will get us something practical but still provide better sound.

Any thoughts on the Sony that hasn't been talked about?
