1) The team would have to feel like they can definitely extend him since he is on a a 1 year franchise tag.

2) We still had some good tackles in FA. I expect that the just now signing of Vollmer, will speed up any trade of BA and the signing of Andre Smith wherever he ends up.

This team has not been consistently mediocre since the 90s.

They've been mosly a bucket of shit for the last decade, with a couple of medocre seasons thrown in, just for the hell of it.

But that's okay.

Trading for Alex Smith is a first step back on the path to consistent mediocrity.

mediocrity is going to be a step up for the team. this team was officially shit when Kendrell Bell showed up but it's been suspect ever since Gunther became the HC. (facepalm)

He's not going to be asked to manage games here. Reid has voiced what he wants/likes his qbs to do. Apparently, he sees those things in Alex smith. Obviously he's more experienced knowledgable than I am in said matter, but up to this point Alex smith hasn't consistently show those traits.
Nobody played well against the Giants in the playoffs that year. Rodgers looked like shit, Brady looked like shit, Ryan looked like shit. Their defense dominated everyone.

And Alex Smith has played in an offense where Harbaugh put the chain on his leg so he couldn't do much more than manage a game.

How do you or anyone know what he'll look like in Andy's offense with more freedom to make plays?

Now Alex Smith is not a franchise QB, and it would take odd/rare type events (2000 Ravens epic D, playing a Rex Grossman led team, etc) for him to be at the helm of a SB win because hes just not on that level, but would it be worth it if he led the team to a playoff victory/s down the road putting an end to the loosing streak, which is the longest in NFL history? I do think hes capable of that. With more improvements made all around I think he could provide the stability to achieve similar success last seen around here by Marty's teams.

Keep making excuses.

When he had to have te chains taken off in order to win games by throwing the ball, like he will be asked to do here, he wasn't very good. I'm sure clay can show you a record or numbers or some shit.

What exactly has he shown that makes you think he will succeed in an Andy Reid offense?

I've stated that I think he has the potential to do it, but to this point there isn't much evidence

Alex Smith is 3-13 all time when throwing 35 or more times per game, which what a normal Andy Reid team does every game. That is a pretty damn good sample size to say he will blow ass when forced to throw all the time.

I think he has potential to be a good QB, unlike the others who think he's Matt Cassel.

He's shown he can win games and take control when he has the freedom to be let loose. Proved it against Detroit, proved it against Andy Reid's Eagles and he proved it against a franchise QB in a shootout in the playoffs.

People need to realize that a QB doesn't have to light up the stat sheet and throw 30+ TD's to be a good QB.
Joe Montana threw 30 TD's once in his career, every year Tom Brady won a SB he didn't have great stats.

And Alex Smith looks like Matt Cassel you say? You know who else has looked like Matt Cassel? Eli Manning and Joe Flacco. They've looked worse than Matt Cassel in multiple games in their career.

For years Giant and Raven fans had this same argument about them that people are having on this board.

I prefer to use his stats his last 2 years since:

A. He has a QB coach who knows WTF he's doing and he'll have that here.

B. He has pretty strong talent on his team and he'll also have that here.

In those 2 years, Alex Smith was 2-2 throwing 35 or more times.

He was also 9-3 in those 2 years when threw the ball 30 or more times.

Pretty interesting when we take a look at things in a realistic perspective huh?
