Yeah, but ideally you have someone in the pipe to replace him.

I don't see anyone on this coaching staff that appears ready to ascend to that role. Carta-Samuels may have been a good candidate in a couple of years but I don't see anyone ready right now. Elarbee feels like a return to the Josh Henson days.

They'll have to go back outside the program. Not excited about it.

I see Tennessee commit QB Adrian Martinez has a visit scheduled with Mizzou 12/15 and just bumped up his visit with us for this weekend. You guys recruiting him pretty hard?

Get a visit with a 4* quarterback then yes, you recruit him hard.

I just have no idea how the hell they snag him now. What's your sales pitch? Definitely a kick to the juevos but Heupel earned it given what he's done with the offense over the last 2 years. He took over one of the worst offenses in the SEC (by some metrics among the worst in SEC history) and turned it into a juggernaut.

That's going to get him a job somewhere, just wish it would've been a year later.

I saw from an article that Randy Shannon was hired as the Defensive Coordinator almost immediately.

Wonder if Heuppel picked him or was told that he had to accept him. I get that he recruits FL pretty well but wouldn't you want your own guys?

Probably a little of A, a little of B.

I suspect UCF had a line on Shannon, liked the idea of it and floated it to Heupel in the interview. If they liked him enough, perhaps he could've torpedoed it an brought in his own DC if he wanted to.

Or perhaps he was completely on board with it and it just didn't matter.

I'm guessing there wasn't really a gun to the head moment here. Most programs are smart enough to avoid that sort of thing these days. The inevitable back-biting and power struggles inevitably keep them stuck in the mud and can doom regime's before they even get going. Odom and Kul damn near did and they fired the guy (**** you again, Kuligowski).
