The way this team is racking up points, I think it's possible. But I doubt they'll go undefeated. I think they could have problems at K.C. Oct. 22 and in home games vs. the Redskins and Vikings and at Tampa Bay down the road.

There's some of that respect we've been screaming about.

I second that. They are a great team but no way they go all the way without at least one defeat. It will happen at one of the games you mentioned.

You know - IF we can manage to hold them to something "respectable"....like say 30 points - the Chiefs have a legit chance.

Bob Dole is concerned that Spurt is going to implement schemes that simply attempt to slow St. Louie, rather than designing schemes to stop them. (See end of Titans game for reference.) If that's our staff's approach, we'll just slow down the Ram's scoring and have less clock to work with for ourselves.

Bob Dole hopes he is wrong.

Bob Dole,

I think all we can hope for is to slow them down. IMO only teams like Miami, Buffalo or Tampa have a chance of stopping them. As frustrating as it is sometimes to see Dennis give his WR about a 10 yard cushion, at least the Chiefs aren't giving up the big plays. I don't think they have given up a pass greater than 25 yards yet this season (but I might be wrong). We have to continue to do that against the Rams to hold them under 30. We might give up first down after first down and end up with less time to score in return.........but IMO that's the risk we have to take. With all their multi-WR sets we are going to have to bring Warfield and Bartee into the game . I don't think we have any choice but to play off the receivers and risk giving them the underneath passes. What could really hurt us then though would be the overpursuit of our D-line, allowing Faulk to break into our LB corps either on a run or following a dump-off pass, with our DBs all blocked downfield. We will need huge games from Patton and Edwards again.........and Bush MUST step it up.

Bob Dole is not yet ready to believe there is no way to stop the Ram's offense.

Dole,

I think our current defensive scheme is a good match for the Rams offense. In case people haven't noticed we're giving a huge cushion to receivers - even Hasty is. They rule of thumb seems to be, keep them in front of you. If we can keep the Rams from opening up the deep patterns, they will still get yards but maybe not as many TDs. Once they're in the red zone they won't have as much field to stretch out our defense. We can hope to get some licks in on Warner and get some of those turnovers he's been handing out too. Here's to knocking the piss out of the Rams offense!

My biggest fear however is that we'll get a lead and try to nurse it along instead of trying to score every drive like they do.

The Rams receivers are killing everyone with speed. No one is slowing them down. Has any team even tried to slow them down and disrupt their patterns and timing by hitting them at the line? I don't think the Chiefs have enough speed at the corners to do this, but allowing them to run unhindered just seems like a formula for failure.

milkman,

I agree, I think the key is knocking the **** out of their WR's for the first 5 yards. That's going to provide some major disruption to their timing & allow us to get into the backfield to pressure Warner. The accolades on Warner to date include how quickly he gets rid of the ball. I think we have the nickel & dime packages to achieve this goal but then we have their running game, screens, & dumpoffs to contend with. I really hope Kurt isn't looking past the Silver & Black at that HUGE Blue & Gold obstacle looming in week 8. Should be a helluva game. If we can stay as close as Seattle did, I think the mindset of this team is of the volition to pull off the upset at the end.

KPhobia,
RE: your original post
I actually posted this on Friday, but no one actually made any reply. Dr. Z's power rankings from CNN said this after posting the Rams at the top of his power rankings.

"St. Louis Rams 4-0
I can't see anyone slowing this monster down until Oct. 22, red-letter day at Arrowhead Stadium "

I just found that pretty interesting. It looks like someone agrees with you (other than Chiefs fans)

Scooter,

I saw that when you posted it and when I read Dr. Z's stuff. I thought you had some response but I could be mistaken.

Faulk will have a very big day if chiefs "d" is anthing like against the hawks. Don't think I ever see anyone get a big hit on any of the receivers either. I feel this is where Wesley will pay divedends with his ability.
