Two OL notes.

Andy Reid said at the owners meetings that Donald Stephenson is the starting RT "for now" -- which is pretty interesting to me. I figured Jeff Allen would be your penciled in RT, due to the fact that he's basically been bumped by Ben Grubbs at LG.

The coaching staff also loves Jeff Allen, and I thought Stephenson landed in the doghouse for one reason or another. I really hope Donald returns to his 2013 form, because he's coming back from an absolutely terrible year.

Second piece of "news" (not really news to those who follow Arrowhead Pride or Terez Paylor) is that the Chiefs have been hunting for a veteran center, probably one to come in and start. The Chiefs are trying to hunt down Stefen Wisniewski right now -- an absolutely great get, if they can land it (several teams are hunting Wisniewski right now). Wisniewski is a very good center that they'd get for about 1/3 of what Hudson got -- talk about working the Fade over HARD.

Earlier this offseason, Paylor said the Chiefs talked to Tim Barnes, too.

Still hard to figure out what the Week 1 starting OL looks like.

If we had to guess now, I guess you'd have to say:

LT: Fisher, Allen
LG: Grubbs, Allen, LDT
C: vet TBA, Kush
RG: Fulton, Fanaika
RT: Stephenson, Allen

I'm with snr here. i dont think guard is an issue at all.

fulton played at a serviceable level towards the end of the season. he may never be a pro bowler in this scheme, but he can become a quality starter. i wouldnt count tardif out either... raw guy, but that mother ****er ran a 4.9 40, threw up 33 reps and ran a 7.30 3 cone. those numbers are more impressive than ANY offensive lineman from 2014 or 2015. allen has a chance to turn things around... henry looked decent. one of those guys will provide serviceable play at the rg spot.

i really think we need to get a RT who has LT potential in case fisher doesn't pan out.

Plus, it's a guard. Literally one of the least important positions in the entire 22. We can't have lousy players like mcglynn out there. A pro bowler is always nice to have. But we will be just fine with serviceable. Grubbs and whomever wins that second guard spot will do that for us.

If we draft an OL, I hope it's one of the guys from Florida. Erving and Humphries will be beasts in the NFL..

Hell, we don't have to do much, either. An improvement from Fulton last year would do the trick. Guess who could probably pull that off? Fulton.

I'm fine if you're not buying into Kush or the starting RT, but to say that we're deficient at guard is ****ing insane.
Yeah, I'm not sure when Fulton became AIDS around here.

The guy showed legitimate growth as the season went on. Moreover, he was generally acceptalbe in pass pro most of the season. 21 hurries given up is by no means elite but he only gave up 8 over the second half. For perspective, Grubbs gave up 27 hurries. Fulton allowed 3 sacks all season and 5 hits (Grubbs 1 and 6 respectively).

In pass pro, he's respectable.

He was pretty lacking in the running game, I'll grant that. And obviously you'd like to see better from your strong side guard. That said, one thing that always stood out about Fulton was that the guy does play mean and aggressive. He's young - doesn't it stand to reason that he just didn't have an NFL body yet? Give him another year and you'll get a little better in pass pro (average to slightly above seems fair) and you'll get a guy that's stronger and better equipped to deal with the interior cloggers that give him fit in the run game.

I don't expect Fulton to be a star, but calling the guy a scrub who we need to go spending limited cap space or valuable draft picks to replace is just silly. There's every reason in the world to expect that he'll improve and it wouldn't take much from him to get an average guard for your efforts. Average performance at rookie minimum pay? Friggen done.

Draft depth at the Center position and then wait and see how the RT position flushes out. If it's a complete trainwreck during TC....then find a veteran like Ryan Harris to play.

The only reason we aren't, as a group, talking about how bad Fulton is, is because McGlynn was that much worse.

He will be abused by any interior lineman with any quickness and burst, and he can not get into, or block, in space.
