Bonnaroo definitely has the killer lineup, along with Coachella and Lollapalooza. Unfortunately, Bonnaroo isn't 45 minutes from my house.

i saw that list too and i hope they have a big mainstage act up their sleeves, because this lineup is s**t.
i understand the need for the "2nd tier" type jambands, but it's hard to base a whole festival off of them. when sound tribe and yonder are your anchors, you better just hope that the beauty of mulberry will bring the hippies in. |

That being said, it isn't a great lineup, but I will probably make the jaunt to see Yonder, Galactic, Split Lip, Cornmeal (up and coming, destined for big things), and Railroad Earth. |

selling out venues of around 1500-2000 doesn't mean you're out of the 2nd tier yet. Umphrey's McGee is selling out much larger venues than that and I still consider them 2nd tier behind bands like Panic and Phish.
these bands sell out amphitheater size venues consistently. you have to ask, could Yonder Mountain anchor a summer tour of amphitheaters? the answer is no. |

Yeah, I pretty much agree with your definition of 1st tier vs. everyone else. The Grateful Dead, Panic, and Phish are about the only first tier bands. DMB is sort of one, but they're not really a jam band anymore. The fact is that the whole jam band scene has gotten weak in comparison to the heyday when there were enough audiences out there to support a ton of bands. People just don't toll out to shows like they used tol.

I think the biggest factor is that the jamband scene has become divided. There are many sub-scenes now. |
