Per Albert Breer

That Kansas City defense has some serious pieces with Poe, Jackson, Houston, Hali, Johnson, Flowers, Robinson, Berry and now Smith.

Not sure if Q..

Walterfootball's take on this acquisition:
Chiefs sign CB Sean Smith (3 years, $18M; $11M guaranteed): B- Grade
The Chiefs have overpaid once again. Sean Smith is a solid No. 2 cornerback. He is not a No. 1 as Kansas City seems to think. There's no way he deserves $6 million per year and $11 million guaranteed. I understand that the Chiefs wanted to add a corner to contend with the Broncos and all of their receivers, but that doesn't mean they should throw tons of money at the first defensive back willing to sign with them.

Then again, this is from the guy who assigned a C+ and D grade to the re-signings of Bowe and Colquitt, respectively, and who has previously graded LeRon McClain and Kelly Gregg as "A"s. So take it with a giant grain of salt. Like, the biggest grain of salt ever manufactured.

Spotrac. That does not include the draft class salary cap space.

This isn't complete, but here's a good look at that breakdown (but without data from the additions of Smith, Robinson and Devito, or the departure of Cassel):

Thanks! I doubt they'll do any big money signings but it sure looks as if it would help them out tremendously to cut Studebaker and extend Eric Berry.

$10 million for Berry is an eyesore. I doubt Hali would extend and renegotiate.

I would love to see that.

Basically, he's not going to go play every down on long drives. You have to have some depth on that line. We don't. It's a need.

I'd rather have one of the other guys because they're each 5 years younger.

Dansby would be a stop gap.
