Food and Drink Is it a terrible idea to stay home alone on Thanksgiving? - Page 2

My 1st thanksgiving since divorce, kids go to the ex-wife. Can't really travel to any family since I have to work Friday.

I have a few invites from some friends, but won't know most of the people there. They are all like 30+ minutes away too. I'm kind of digging the idea of just hunkering down by myself, eating whatever I have on hand, playing video games and watching football and movies all day. I might read a book, but it's pretty unlikely.

Just curious if anyone else has gone down this path and greatly regretted not spending thanksgiving with someone elses family.

I did that once. I bought the Hungryman deluxe turkey meal and a 12 pack of beer. Ate, watched football, and rented a movie. It was ok, but would have rather been with family or friends. I was out of town in residency at the time and couldn't travel home.

I did that in 2001 when I was 19. Both parents got pissed because I was contemplating hitting up both houses so I just said, "**** it" and stayed at my house.

I remember Mike McMahon trying to valiantly rally the Lions back from a deficit but falling short.

Tried to make my own Thanksgiving dinner and it was a ****ing disaster, but it was certainly the most memorable Thanksgiving I ever had.

That's the spirit. Honestly, i'd trade you places if i could. Instead, i have to wake up at the ass-crack of dawn to prepare this ham, and then spend the rest of the afternoon with my wife's family.

i'd muuuuch rather stay at home, fap, watch football, smoke and play video games lol. Sounds like a dream.

I have not gone to my family's Thanksgiving/Christmas bullshit for years. I spend a little time with my lady.. then she goes off to her family for hours while I drink beer and watch football. It's awesome.

Standing around forcing conversation with people instead of doing what makes me happy? Yeah, screw that. Too many people need to do and be around other people too much, imho. No thanks.

I spent Thanksgiving and Christmas of 1993 alone in my first apartment in Hollywood. I grilled a steak on Thanksgiving, watched football all day, then went to Boardner's at about 9pm to hang out and drink (it was within a block of my place).

For Christmas, I did the same thing but I think it was USA Network that aired all three original Star Wars movies, so I watched those as well. I took a break at one point, walked down to Hollywood Blvd. and ended up on CNN for a few minutes, as I was checking out the "Christmas Display" in 95 degree heat.

Strangely enough, I can barely remember any other Thanksgiving or Christmas in my entire life but the ones I spent alone, I recall vividly.
