He did not. I would be that most of our draft picks during his tenure went to defense. At least it sure seems like we were drafting DL all the time back then. We spent a first and a second in the same draft IIRC.
They just couldn't pick anybody worth a shit.

I know DV stuck by GROB too long but this team did try by bringing in players through FA and the draft. Carl is the one that finally replaced GROB with Gunther ****ing Cunningham. Yup that was on DV. Try again

Completely untrue that it wasn't a priority to fix the D. Vermeil let Carl get the players the DC wanted. Robinson brought in his guys. Cunningham brought in all the guys he loved. They brought in a lot of free agents and spent a lot of early draft picks on the D. They made the wrong choices but they certainly didn't ignore it.
