I heard they were grown in a box, but not a cardboard box...a clear plastic tote.

They have them at Walmart.

Seriously if you want to grow a lot of shitakes, lion's mane, or whatever its really not hard. All you need is some mason jars, a pressure cooker, some wild bird seed, some vermiculite, some coco coir, and some patience...and of course spores. I dont know what those cardboard boxes cost but I doubt they'll yield much.

I obviously don't know firsthand... but my understanding is you should expect multiple harvests from each side (three to four). So that would be 12-16 harvests, the boxes run $20ish, so maybe $1.50/harvest. But I have no idea about how large a single harvest can be.
