Late night bullshit: DVD commentaries.

There are some extremely good commentaries out there. When I'm sitting around online late at night sometimes after coffeeshops have closed, doing reading or work or whatever, I'll have a DVD commentary on in the background. (I enjoy conversation as background noise, and really good DVD commentaries are a perfect replica of that.)

Right now I'm listening to the commentary for The Incredibles. Brad Bird is a great director to listen to, not dry at all, very animated and clearly passionate about his projects. (As opposed to Peter Jackson, whose Lord of the Rings commentaries are packed full of great information but are incredibly, mind-numbingly dull.

Probably the funniest DVD commentary track I've heard is for Anchorman.

The Lord of the Rings commentaries by the on-screen talent is fantastic.

I've always really liked the commentary for Horton Hears A Who!, and the commentaries for "The Office" seasons are always incredible. I love hearing the personalities bounce off each other.

Give me some really good commentaries to listen to. I'm mainly looking for commentaries that are pretty entertaining, in whatever way you deem it to be.

I don't know why, but I am a big fan of listening to Oliver Stone do commentaries to his movies.

I watched Born on the 4th of July with his commentary last week. It was fantastic.

I can't stand watching a movie for a second time so I almost never listen to DVD commentaries. I like background conversation too, but I get that from podcasts and talk radio (sports or political).

I used to like spending a couple of hours browsing through the local record store. I spent a lot of time at Vintage Vinyl in University City (St. Louis) after I got out of college and had my first real disposable income. But I like the fact that you can hear almost anything on the internet now through youtube, spotify and grooveshark. I choose modernity over nostalgia in this instance.

Random thought about commentaries:

Was just thinking about this earlier tonight. On the "Born On the 4th of July" commentary, Oliver Stone mentioned that the role of Ron Kovic was intended to be played by Al Pacino, but things didn't work out and they were real upset about it at first. With that said, THANK GOD it didn't work out. I know this may butt-hurt Pacino-lovers and/or Cruise-haters, but I don't care what anyone says...Pacino wouldn't have come close to capturing Ron Kovic the way Cruise did. I am by no means a Cruise fanboy or anything...his acting never stood out as being anything extraordinary to me in anything besides BOT4OJ, but holy hell he did a fantastic job in that movie. That movie is one of my favorites and if Pacino ended up being lead, it probably would have been an utterly forgettable movie to me. To clarify, I'm not a Cruise lover or Pacino hater...I just think for that particular movie, things fell in to place perfectly.

Fight Club is the best. The BD version should have all the tracks, and the original SE DVD two disc set had commentary from Fincher, Pitt, Norton, and Palahniuk layered across multiple tracks. It's amazing.

I have the special edition of that movie and have never listened to the commentary...I will have to do that in near future.

I ditto this with se7en - Unless that fat bitch back in 2009 took it, I didn't **** her so she kept several of my movies. Her name was Danielle had she lost some weight she'd had been hot. She just used to come over and do bong tokes w/ me. She totally wanted my cock, but thankfully I never gave it to her - even when I was drunk.
