This is a series we need to show up for. Sweeping Chicago is nice, but these are the wins we need.

Something else I didnt think we would be saying at this time of year is we have the tightest division in baseball to date. And the hottest division in baseball being the only division with three teams on 2 or more game win streaks.
The Royals are the hottest team in baseball, even splitting this series is pretty big. Winning it is huge! In for 8!

So here's my new target:

Marlon Byrd.

RH-hitting OF who can play a capable RF, has pop, and isn't bank-breaking ($8 million in 2015, with easily reached $8 million option for 2016). Likely would not cost a fortune in prospects to acquire from Philly, which already is 6.5 games back and needs to retool.

He plays most of the rest of the way in RF for the Royals. Lineup looks like this:

Cain
Gordon
Hosmer
Butler
Byrd
Perez
Moustakas
Infante
Escobar

In 2015, the Royals can decline Butler's option, and Byrd's flexibility allows them to use him as a RF and rotate guys through the DH slot some as well (with Byrd probably getting the most games at DH due to his age and the fact he's just an average defender).

I figure it probably costs the Royals something like Cheslor Cuthbert and Miguel Almonte... but that's do-able.

It's not a sexy, splashy move, but the cost isn't splashy, either. Low cost, low risk in both prospects and cash.

He's putting up a .260/.320/.470 slash line right now, and is on pace to hit 22 HR and 41 2B (if he gets to 550 AB).

That would help the Royals lineup.

his age would scare me, dude is 36 already. Coming off of his best year ever, doubt he will ever duplicate that.

I would like to improve RF, but there is no reason to assume that Aoki WONT trend back to his career stats, which is a 3.0 WAR player.
