Chiefs notes: No news on Medlock
Chiefs notes: No news on Medlock
No call for Medlock When they released floundering rookie kicker Justin Medlock last week, the Chiefs said they intended to sign him to their practice squad once he cleared waivers the next day. Medlock cleared waivers, but he’s still not a member of the practice squad. “They said they wanted him back but there’s certainly been no invitation since he cleared waivers,” said Medlock’s agent, Frank Murtha. Murtha said he’s heard from a number of other teams but he wouldn’t specify which ones. “It’s not a case of if Justin is going back to work,” Murtha said. “It’s a case of when. I think it will be sooner rather than later.” No room for Boomer Fullback and fan favorite Boomer Grigsby was deactivated on game day for each of the first two games, and there’s no guarantee he will suit up for Sunday’s game against Minnesota at Arrowhead Stadium. Grigsby is a better lead blocker than starting fullback Kris Wilson but the Chiefs are willing to live without those talents, at least temporarily. “We dressed eight offensive linemen,” coach Herm Edwards said in explanation. “We generally don’t dress eight offensive linemen but the reason was because (Damion) McIntosh was injured. He couldn’t play a whole game and we didn’t want to go in with seven offensive linemen. (Grigsby’s) not doing anything wrong. That’s just what’s happening.” McIntosh missed Wednesday’s practice after tweaking his injured knee in last Sunday’s loss in Chicago, so the Chiefs might feel the need to dress eight linemen again. Kershaw released The Chiefs released reserve linebacker William Kershaw when they activated Jared Allen off the suspended list. Kershaw was Napoleon Harris’ backup at middle linebacker, so his departure is a vote of confidence of sorts for rookie free agent Nate Harris, who is now listed as the top reserve in the middle. Vikings tickets available Minnesota returned some of its ticket allotment for Sunday’s game. Those tickets can be purchased at any Ticketmaster outlet, at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 816-931-3330. Left-footed compliment The Vikings invited former University of Kentucky punter Glenn Pakulak to practice this week. They had no intentions of signing Pakulak but brought him in because he’s left-footed and can simulate the Chiefs’ left-footed punter Dustin Colquitt. “The ball spins differently from a left-footed punter,” said Vikings coach Brad Childress. A new No. 84 For the first time since Randy Moss was traded after the 2004 season, a Minnesota wide receiver has been issued Moss’ No. 84. Rookie Aundrae Allison, a fifth-round pick from East doesn’t apologize for wearing the revered Purple No. 84, once one of the NFL’s hottest-selling jerseys. “If Moss was so great, they would have retired his number,” Allison, who has caught one pass for 11 yards, told reporters. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chi...ry/284516.html |

why the **** would we sign a kicker to the practice squad? Seriously? What is the benefit of that?
Let's just pretend Rayner was our 5th round pick...he's 23, he's young...if he works out, yay, good choice. |

McIntosh = The new Bennett.
I'm so glad we brought him over to cheer on Svitek ( ) from the sidelines. Last edited by Easy 6; 09-21-2007 at 06:56 AM.. |

I am actually kind of surprised that they cannot find a spot on special teams for Boom!

There's really no point in putting Medlock on the PS. If a team wanted him, they could sign him off our PS and put him on their 53-man roster, which they can do right now anyway. Nobody has.
The only reason to put him on our PS is to prevent another team from signing him as a FA and stashing him on their PS. And who's going to do that? Seems prudent to just let him hang out there and work privately on kicking. Chiefs can periodically monitor his progress. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit out the season and show up in our training camp again in 08. |

The great thing about Medlock was that he was the kicker kicking the UCLA field goal when the USC cheerleader fugged up and cheered for the wrong team again ehhee
