Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Lets not forget that Alex is only 6 months older than Flacco and been in the league 3 more years. Also a year younger than Weeden. He was one of the youngest players to ever step on an NFL field, had just turned 20. Omobye Akoye being 19. He has only thrown 8 more pics than Flacco.

Alex was on 3 of the worst team in recent memory. I challenge anyone to name the WR from the 05 06 07 season. You will not find a more depleated team. He never should have touched the field as a rookie where most of his turnovers came from. 11 pics and 12 lost fumbles. Chiefs fans are going to be very happy with Alex as time goes on. You will realize very quickly that he rarely turns the ball over, which lost you a ton of games last year. Int's lost fumbles, bonehead QB mistakes. Alex just doesnt make them, plain and simple. Alot of his bad play came between his rookie year and his injuries. Even before Harbaugh got there he was playing really well. He just had to deal with Singletary, who was maybe the worst head coach possible. I believe you will be quite surprised with Alex, he knows this offensive system well. Having played for Mike Mcarthy and Norv Turn. He is well versed. Give the Kid a chance, Ill argue that besides Peyton Manning, no QB is better at checking off and making decisions at the line of scrimmage than Alex. He is extremely smart and reads defenses as well as anyone. Everyone says Andy Reid, all he does is throw, but if Alex see's it; trust me he will check to a run if he has to. Good luck to all Chiefs fans, and good luck to Alex.

This.... He better find a way to get everybody to camp, no holdouts, and work a LOT longer than any other team on the NFL to make the first snap this season look and feel like it's the 30,000th snap he's taken with "his team." So I agree, he only gets camp and the pre-season to "acclimate" to his new team!

Wouldn't hurt my feelings in the slightest. Everyone and their dog, be they a pundit, CP poster, rival or casual fan have said the chiefs were a legit QB away from being a good team. Why not hit that position hard the offseason?

I know, I know, Geno is god incarnate. But I've been on record all along to not put all our QB eggs in one basket. I don't want all the QB hopes on one pair of shoulder pads. Better QB coach, check. An improved vet over casshole, check, now get a rookie or two, or a rookie and another vet. In today's injury lists, we'd be considers smart to stack the position. No don't care anymore if that's not the way it used to be.

They draft Geno and all is forgiven. QB position is well worth throwing the resources at and a much better plan than drafting a 3rd LT or 4th 3-4 end in recent times.

I am not thrilled about this trade but comparisons to Cassel, Thigpen or even Bono and Grbac are really not accurate he did QB a team to an NFC championship game he didn't do it alone I understand that but we need 2 QB's no doubt about it. If every scout out there beleive there isn't a top QB worthy of the first pick then what can you do. I watched a lot of Geno tape and believe he has a skill set worthy of consideration but if the professionals don't so be it they are not always right and neither am I. I don't know how A.Smith will work out but he is not the worst QB in the league he is limited but he does enough good to win. Can he win a Super Bowl is the big question I don't know for fact if he could or can't. But as of right know with him and Reid we have a better chance then when we had Romeo and Cassel. So we have to give this a chance we are better with him but we can't be satisfied with what we have and I don't beleive Reid and Dorsey will be. But I guess we will see

He doesn't trust his arm
He can't beat teams that score more than 24
His completion was terrible before this year.

He only has 75 starts in 7 seasons.
How many draft classes over the last 10 years haven't had a QB that turned out better than Alex Smith?

Yup...pretty sure Thigpen burnt Barber on the play, too.
