Want a headset to work around the house/office

At the office I have an old, 10 yrs old lift phone

Needs a wired base hand set

That needs this

Mine is much older but you get the idea. I dial a number on the base, put on the headset and press a button, the handphone (base) raises(lifter) and talk. When I am done, I press a button and the handphone (base) with the lifter goes down...hangs up. With the headset on, a call comes in, I press a button on the headset, and the phone raises off the base(lifts) and it answers. Then, call over, press the button on the headset and hangs up the phone. All with the lifter. Requires a wired base, corded (see above), and lifter (see above). I really like the set up, but looking at new tech...ie bluetooth.

To update with old tech with new (same ideas) stuff is expansive...

I am not a smart guy. Thus...same as I have. Walk around for 100 yds and talk. I pace a lot when I talk and want hands free (to walk, helps with the LBS..an aside, bought a calorie tracker to see how many miles I walk during the day). I want to answer a phone (not make a phone call from the headset...that is what the base is for) and end a call.

I just bought some of those Bluetooth thingies...but read that the ear phones thingies can only be 6 ft from the transmitting thingies (base). I am not gonna have my cell phone in my pocket nor a base unit that transmits a signal.

I bought a blue tooth phone base for the home, in the mancave. With hopes I could use a bluetooth earpiece to walk around the house and outside a bit. Upon reading the directions, says earpiece only works within 6 ft of the base (transmission sight).

At the office, I bought another bluetooth base for the same idea. But I will pace further then 6 ft from the base.

Bottom line, is this "bluetooth" stuff what I want or go back to the plantronics lift thingie. My old one with the headset has a range of 100ft, much like the pictures above.

Thoughts and ideas.

Bluetooth has a pretty limited range, it's not intended for that.

A plantronics is your best bet. I have the over the ear model at the office, works good, less annoying than a full headset

I guess they do make some Class1 devices that claim 328ft, but I bet that is seriously degraded if not line of sight.
