Derrick Johnson the next Kendrell Bell?

http://www.draftshowcase.com/DerrickJohnson.htm

Outside Linebacker
Texas
Senior
6'3 | 242 | 4.58

HOME TOWN: Waco, TX
HIGH SCHOOL: Waco

*AP Photo
QUICK STRENGTHS: Speed, instincts, blitzing ability
QUICK WEAKNESSES: ability to take on blocks, overall strength
NFL COMPARISONS: Johnson can go sideline to sideline, he can go inside/outside. His speed and athleticism along with his ability to come up the field remind me of Kendrell Bell. His build and style of play is also very similar to that of Boss Bailey.
One of the top recruits in the state of Texas, Johnson stayed home and has been a starter since his true freshman season, earning All-American honors as a sophomore and junior and a senior. He won the Bednarik Trophy as the nation's finest lienbacker.

Johnson possesses outstanding speed and quickness. He is all over the field making plays from sideline to sideline. He shows excellent ability on the blitz and has been outstanding in coverage. He has great range and plays well in space. Comes up the field well, finds the creases and makes plays in the opposing backfield. Has a good feel for the blitz and times them well. Still needs to add strength and work at taking on and shedding blocks, although he shows decent ability to at least slide or spin away from blockers. He is more effective at avoiding and going around blocks than through them. Is not a strong or sudden tackler. Tackles low and brings the ball carrier down but doesn't "stop them in their tracks" or really lay the big hits. Is very good in coverage, shows good awareness and has the quickness to stay with his man. He breaks well on the ball and has great ball skills for a linebacker. He also shows a great knack for creating fumbles by clubbing the ball.

Can play inside or outside, and that versatility will help him succeed at the NFL level. Coming back for his senior season and adding more bulk and strength was a great decision. Johnson's speed and playmaking ability has him at the top of the Linebacker rankings. He is a pure playmaker on defense and should be a great one in the pros.

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

No way the CHIEFS have a chance at drafting him.

Unquestionably.

Detroit would be smart to grab him. He and Boss Bailey would make a nice LBer duo.

Yes we do, most any team does, just a matter of what are they willing to give up to move up and take him? Oakland and Buffalo, and I think also the Giants, are probably the only teams who couldn't think of it, none of them have a 1st.

Well you're right when putting it that way. So, maybe I should say that it is very unlikely that the CHIEFS have a chance at drafting him.

I was SCREAMING at the TV a few years ago when Boss was available and we didn't pick him. No big deal as I do it every year.

Simply the most overhyped player of this year. I saw him play in several games, and I don't see anything resembling Ray Lewis here.

Agree w/ you there. Unless he slips to 3-4 spots above us, it'll just cost way too much with all our other needs.

I was doing the same thing that year. I still can't believe we passed on him, he would have fit in perfectly here.

Thinking about past drafts like that makes me come to the realization that once again we will be disappointed with this year's draft.....I don't know why I do this to myself every year.
