Football Toughts about more than one union for the NFL players

Any number of institutions have more than one union representing different portions of the employee base. Government, airlines, grocery stores, construction sites, and the list goes on... What are your thoughts of, perhaps, the NFL players looking into more than one union. I think "position" unions would be overkill, but it seems to me if players other that QBs, RBs and WRs ever want to get an equal voice in terms of what the "players" think, going to a scenario where offense and defense are represented by different unions might make sense. Heck, if thye want to be offense/defense agnostic, perhaps unions for the glamor players and another for trench players might allow for the voice of the trench warriors to be heard and considered separately.

Dividing teammates along representation lines is NOT a good idea. You'll just end up creating animosity between players.

I see your point, but I think it might be there already. The NFL does little to protect the linemen, I wonder how OK they are with it.

I'd just like to see it proposed to see the reaction of the glamor players.. As for a divide between players on offense and defense, that might be long overdue.

Running backs need better representation. They rarely have the opportunity to make decent money due to their short careers.

True... But I could live well for a long time off three years of their salary. I'd just like to see defensive players get together and speak with one voice. Something has to be done before this "entertainment" kills itself by its own stupid hands.

I feel like this would make a CBA even more difficult to negotiate with different parties. 3 groups have to agree to it rather than 2.

I get your points, but I think something has to be done to have counter some of these rules that are masked as caring about certain individuals. I say masked because each time they make a rule, when you back away from it, it seems like it's more about increasing scoring that the title of the new rule. It makes it difficult to argue because it appears to "care" about some player's safety, but when you back off, it amazing how it A) seems to simply favor more scoring (more entertainment), B) never includes anything that's might impact the "more scoring" mantra, C) rarely has any compensating control to counter the advantage (masked in the wrapped named "safety") just offered one player.

I've never bargained for a union, but I've bargained with them, and more often than not, more than one at the same time. Is it more difficult? Sure, but we've never missed a deadline that the group being larger was the blame for. Add to the mix that many companies really don't care about the people who make the company successful, that it makes sense no matter how much you hate it. If you own or manage in a company and care about your people, that's not directed at you... If you've made a rule that doesn't allow you folks to "take their helmets off" for fear that a face will be put to a particular play, then it might be directed at you...

And it's not like the union makes the rules, they don't, but it'll certainly allow for some of these very one-sided rules to be questioned during the CBA. Just think how wonderful it'd be if defense was allowed to play again? Wow!!
