In depth article into Larry Johnson

Very long, but very interesting. He believes he is living with CTE and struggles to not think about suicide.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/spo...=.1fbfbd72a552

“I could be Aaron Hernandez,” Johnson says, and indeed he sees the former Patriots star as a kindred spirit as much as a cautionary tale.

Sad stuff.

Sure, but the repetitive subconcussive hits couldn't have helped. And it's very possible that high school ball is enough to cause these sorts of effects.

I love football, and I'm probably going to continue watching for a long time. But when the time comes for it to go away, I can't say I'll miss it. I might even feel relieved. It's a strange dissonance.

tom savage having a seizure on the field might have been it for me. I can't watch anymore. My favorite LJ moment was when the chiefs went for 2 to win the game. It was a pretty much a no doubter because of the line and LJ's power.

Sounds to me like LJ is bipolar and has been since he was a little kid. I’m sure football and the numerous hits he has taken to the head while playing have added to his mental issues, but LJ was going to be a ****ed up individual with or without football.

There's a difference between knowing the possibility of danger and the extent of danger. I can tell you that there is a common side effect from taking a drug, but if I neglect to mention that that side effect isn't just aches and pains but debilitating brain dysfunction that mirrors early-onset dementia, and I go out of my way to discredit and punish others that do try to mention this side effect, then I've not only abrogated my responsibility, but I've lied, and I have facilitated the disability of others through my dishonesty.
That is a very long sentence!

In MMA when they get knocked out, a referee jumps in between and calls the fight over. After this, a medical team surrounds the loser and immediately doctors him.

In the NFL, they go back to the huddle disoriented and hopefully go on for the rest of the series without anybody noticing.

My favorite LJ moment was in preseason and he darted for a 99 yard touchdown. It's not in the record book but wish it was.

This. LJ was for sure a head case, but I wish we had seen him with a decent coach. I miss watching him punish the **** out of DBs.

Right. Him having giant hole to run through and murder the secondary might be a crime against humanity. Roaf and Co were ****ing other-worldly.

So it's your contention that in today's NFL that if a guy gets knocked out he's allowed to go back to the huddle and continue playing?

Knocked out? No. Possibly concussed? Absolutely.

Russell Wilson skipped out on concussion protocol in a tight game earlier this season. It was horseshit.
