What's the delay in getting Herm under contract?
As of Friday morning, Carl had settled the compensation issue with the Jets and was free to negotiate with Edwards. Here it is Sunday and the two long-time buddies still haven't sealed the deal. What's the problem?

I'm guessing Carl is trying to negotiate Gunther into the equation, and Herm's resisting.

Or maybe it's just a money issue.

Hmmmm, I thought I had heard 5 years, $20 mil.

But 4 years would make sense since Carl has 4 years to go on his extended contract.

i think it ended up being less (4yrs /12mill) ... but with several bonuses that can increase the value ... and with an option for a 5th year.


base = 4 years/12 million
with options/bonuses = 5 yrs/20 million


don't know what the exact options are

I don't think it took that long at all to agree to a contract. I think they spent some time together to go over the current coaching staff and to look at guys around the league to put together a plan of who they want. I'm guessing they may have already started contacting some of them.
