Ok, I've About Had it With Netflix. It's starting to Suck.

Is it just me, or is Netflix starting to suck more and more balls with every passing day?! They keep taking these shows that my wife and I like off and it seems as if their mission is to get to the point where every movie, documentary and TV series is a Netflix original. And maybe it's just me, but I haven't watched any Netflix original series shows that I've been very thrilled about. First one I watched was Orange is the New Black. That show is alright, but if you were an "Oz" fanatic in the prior to watching it, it is difficult to be that thrilled about OITNB...and Prison Break. I can't even get through this latest season. The entire thing seems to be based on a riot that I lost interest in after an episode or two. And the couple-few Netflix series I've tried since, just hasn't kept my attention. This may because I have a bad attitude coming in about Netflix and haven't been able to shake it. To be fair, I probably haven't been giving the shows much of a chance because I am pissed at Netflix. My wife is really in to Stranger Things right now...she told me I would like it...I am having a difficult time forcing myself to watch it...and she is pretty good about knowing which shows I would like...so I really think it is an anti-Netflix bias.

So Netflix initially ruffled my feathers in a major way when they didn't renew the 30 for30's. I love 30 for 30's...I can watch them over and over. That started it all for me. Now I don't know where to watch them...and I refuse to buy cable/satellite in my town.

Then suddenly, a couple of my favorites; Malcolm In the Middle and The Wonder Years were taken off. That really, really pissed me off. 3 out of the 5 shows I watch more than anything on Netflix (The Office and Always Sunny being the other 2), all taken off...just like nothing. Those were all go-to shows to watch when I wanted to relax on a stressful day...always put me at ease. And my wife is upset about 30 Rock being taken down.

Thank goodness Hulu is stepping up and claiming some of these. Huge fan of Hulu right now.

Eventually, so may only be a subscribe to Hulu and HBO Now. I've about had it with Netflix.

Is that what Netflix is doing? Gravitating towards being exclusively Netflix originals? Because it sure seems like it. I knew it was too good to be true to have access to those great shows for well, more years.

The straw that will break the camel's back for me will be when they take The Office down. I have every season's DVD and everything, but I don't feel like whipping out one of my DVD players just because Netflix sucks. My wife and I watch The Office every day/night when we go to sleep. We have for the past 6-7 years... it's like our bedtime lullaby. At least with Always Sunny, I think Hulu will still have it.

I don't know where to watch The Wonder Years now. What, is it finally on DVD or something?!!

Ugh. Anyone else frustrated with this?

I think South Park was on to something a couple weeks ago when they jabbed at Netflix, teasing them for seemingly accepting any Netflix Orignal Series that is pitched to them.

Yeah, I could easily afford to pay $200 a month or whatever, but I refuse. It's worth about $50-75 a month to me, if that. And only for live sports or I'd cancel it at any price.
I can afford it, what I want to view is not dependent on my views of the corporation that made or delivers the product. Of course its all over priced. We should get our content when we want to see it, not on their schedule.

I like a lot of different types of TV. I want to watch it when I want to watch the content. I've have a 100 hour Ultra HD DVR. Damn thing is filled up at 85% now. Whole series like Get Shorty, Deuce waiting to be watched when I have time.

I just resigned up with Fios. Have all their channels that they have available. HBO, Showtime and Cinemax. HD DVR box, router, wireless, 3 TV's and streaming all content online. 100meg internet speed. Usually runs at 120meg. $160 a month.

EDIT: I also get unlimited calling through a landline phone. I'm not even sure where a landline connection is in my house. But, I have no interest in buying a landline phone. I was interested that the package was $40 cheaper with the landline IP based phone.

With five out of the top seven publicly traded linear pay TV platforms, including the top three, reporting customer numbers, it appears the industry’s record-bad third-quarter subscriber losses could indeed surpass 1 million users, as some analysts have predicted.

In the past week, Verizon said it lost 18,000 Fios TV users in Q3. AT&T then reported losses of 251,000 for DirecTV and 134,000 for U-verse; on Thursday, Comcast and Charter posted TV customer losses of 125,000 and 104,000, respectively.

During the third quarter of 2016, these same companies added a modest 29,000 video users—or 354,000, discounting AT&T’s planned obsolescence for its U-verse IPTV service.

Still to report: Altice USA and Dish Network, neither of which have specified an earnings date. Dish is believed to once again have big losses to talk about. Privately held Cox Communications, the third largest U.S. cable operator, also has to be factored into the mix.

Two weeks ago, UBS analyst John Hodulik predicted that cable, satellite and telco operators would collectively lose more than 1 million customers in Q3 across their linear platforms. Analysts had predicted the same thing for the second quarter, which is usually the worst three-month period for operators in terms of subscriber growth.

There's really no reason to pay for a subscription to something when there are services out there like Apple Store or Amazon where you can one-off rent the very few things you really want to see.

As with the struggles of Netflix and Hulu - nobody cares if it's unlimited when the content sucks. Neither cable nor any of these services individually are offering enough compelling content to keep people paying.

There's a total of 1 TV series that we follow. I have probably VODed 2 or 3 movies this year. Haven't been to a theater since Rogue One. All this and I don't feel like I have missed out on anything.

The one you'd like most is the one basically everyone likes most. Stranger Things.

It's like ET/8mm meets Twin Peaks. Just great television.

yeah it's going to be different. We are going to split into this alacarte silo approach for awhile. People will discover this isn't saving them money or they are not getting a better bang for their entertainment $.

Then we see another consolidation just like we saw with cable.

Yeah. If you are waiting to vod a series of movie you will be spending more in the long run usually. Netflix is what 8 bucks a month? 10 with tax?

There future is og content. Which they have a leg up on currently. Only one hurting that would be disney with their future offerings.

Disney is going to be gigantic hulk knocking everyone over when their Netflix contract is up.Its going to be just like the Amusement parks. Everyone else has to pay a license fee for beloved movies or characters. Universal and Disney don't. They can build out Harry Potter and Star Wars as big as they want without a dime in license fees.

Like you said, original content is going to decide who is the big dog when all this online/streaming dust settles.

I watched the first two episodes of Ozark. Reasonably good so far.

I'll stick to free OTA. If these companies continue to gouge they will only lose customers. Netflix technically isn't gouging per se but they have been increasing the price by about 50 cents per year while taking away all the content that I was paying for their service to get. This move to their own original content is really killing my interest. House of Cards, which has only gone downhill and stranger things are the only thing from their original content that I even like.

Right now, Hulu really seems like that only one worth the price but when all the networks start doing what CBS is doing Hulu will be gone too.
