Alex Smith was at 7.97 so he was definitely up there at the top. Ahead of Aaron Rodgers , Drew Brees and Tom Brady |

Let's keep our fingers crossed that Alex has matured and become a franchise QB now. If he fails I won't be suprised. If he succeeds I'll be happy. Right now I just want to have hope. If we didn't have Smith and were relying on a draftee to fill the spot we would basically be pissing away Bowe and Charles careers. |

I still don't like the deal, but PFF (who I take more stock in than any poster here for players on other teams) had Alex as a fringe Top 10 QB the last 2 years on a per game basis. On the other hand, even in Cassel's Pro Bowl season it was exposed as a fraud according to them. That made me feel even better seeing that. The guy is a pretty big upgrade at QB.

Don't care. What I know, and what I care about, is that Baldwin's impressive practices have yet to transition to games. Until I see that, it is all just bull shit. Quote:

Handing the ball off to Frank Gore made him look good and I expect the same for him to hand the ball off to JC to make him look good.

Yeah.
Because Damon Huard having the second best QB rating in a season, while John Elway never having a rating above 85 before Mike Shannahan was hired tells us that QB rating is such an effective measure of QB performance.

You are correct that it's not a useless metric, but it is a useless metric to determine if a QB is good at throwing deep. For Smith if you ask why he has a good YPC it is two reasons: 1) high completion precentage and 2) good YAC by his receivers. If you calculate his air yards per completion, they are among the lowest in the league. He's a dink and dunk QB. You can see that from watching 49ers games or by looking at the stats. It is what he is.

His YPA was better than Aaron Rodgers. Would you argue that makes him better than Rodgers?

With the first pick KC selects Tavon "secondary's nightmare" Austin.
Haha. Star would be an awesome surprise also. |
