HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...

This is awesome...

Huge, Huge News

Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

I'm watching it because despite how boring it is, the characters are rather interesting, even if they're not given interesting things to do. And like I said, the end of each episode keeps drawing me in.

It's truly annoying.

Everybody dies in the end except Sansa and Joffrey. They get married and live happily ever after.

There, you don't have to put yourself out anymore.

I'm amazed at how closely they're converting the books into the show. Usually shows or movies take liberties with dialogue or action, but they're pacing this thing perfectly so far, and keeping it faithful to Martin's work. Thus far, anway.

They simply cannot afford, especially in 10 hours, to put in extraneous filler scenes. Everything serves its purpose even if it seems like nothing is going on. Having read the book and knowing what happens in the future, watching how each scene fits into the overall puzzle is fascinating.

Yeah, they haven't shown a throwaway scene yet. Every scene either provides character development or plot advancement, and many scenes do both. This is an extremely lean show (ie, the flulff is almost non-existent).

Well to be fair, I believe he's one of the only ones in this thread that hasn't read the books.

Maybe some of the scenes seem to have great foreshadowing when you already know the future events?

All he is doing is trying to get a rise. He could be jacking off to a screenshot of Jaime right now couting down the seconds till the next episode and still say the same things just because people here will say WTF.

imma about 230 pages into the book and its so good. So much more detail you miss by just watching the show, but the show gives you the just of it. It obviously cant go into more detail like the book. Like when Bran actually fell, it wasnt exactly how it was in the book, but it was close enough.

They also i dont think ever show that the butchers kid got ****ing slaughtered.

They did show the butcher's kid at the end of the episode draped over a horse that the Hound was leading.

Yeah, but int he book he was supposed to be nearly severed in half. In that shot, he just looked like he was ran over.

Yeah h was nearly cut in half. I must missed that but here'd kid part in the tv show. I must have had to pee or something lol

I love that Ned is getting Arya sword training. I expect big things from her and John later on.

Dany is getting interesting too. She's starting to feel the dragons I cant wait.
