New Desktop Tower

I'm in need of a new desktop computer tower. I have a 20" Samsung monitor so I only need the tower. My current HP is about 7 years old and the display driver keeps crashing, even when uninstalling and installing again, it's running slow, and crashes multiple browsers on a consistent basis.

The max I want to spend is $500. I don't play games on it but I do stream sports. Other than that, I don't use it much for anything but browsing the net.

I'm not a tech guy so any help would be appreciated in pointing me to something that will perform well without breaking the bank.

Yeah I did read it. He said he streams sports, which if you want it to play nicely you need better hardware than the pieces of shit you guys would direct him to. But, if he wants to watch choppy shit video, more power to him and the rest of you.

I kind of agree with you on this. He can probably get by with integrated graphics, but if I were using my comp for streaming, I'd want something a little better.

Edit: At that price point though, integrated graphics might be the right choice.

Do you have benchmarks for Video Card streaming?

He doesn't want to build. He's looking for a computer not computer parts.

I stream ****ing video all the time on a 4-year old stripped down HP laptop.

You were so keen on his streaming video performance that you never mentioned it and went on about playing high-end games.

You do realize he's most likely talking about embedded streams like justin.tv, right?

Waiting for the inevitable "Bought an 250$ Walmart computer, thanks guys". It'll be like a DJ scratching a record in this thread.

The thing is, if that's what he wants, why is that bad?

"Build your own" isn't the only answer to the question. Ever.

It's not bad at all. Frankly based on what he wants, I wouldn't blame him.

I guess it's just the Sales Engineer in me.

Not listening to the customer's requirements is the surest way to lose a deal...

I know how hard it is to take that first step in building a computer. I just built a gaming one myself for the first time about 2 months ago. However, that computer is phenomenal, has the parts that I want, and there is a certain ownership/pride about it. I will never again buy a prebuilt computer, and I would encourage anyone considering it to do so. It's REALLY easy to do.

More like mlbtv and NFL sunday ticket during football so I can watch multiple games at once.

Some tech buddies I have are putting in some input too. I'll gather their scenarios this weekend and let you guys see what you think. Thanks for the help.
