Cordy Glenn just set the market for Eric Fisher.

He just signed a 5year, 65m contract with about 27m guaranteed.

Okay, sure... but that isn't what we are talking about. Fisher is a solid LT, not a journeyman, he'll get over paid.

I didn't watch much of last season so I have no idea how much he improved, but from what everyone has said he progressed as the season went on. Great! So only 70% of his career has been spent being one of the worst LTs in the league. Pay the man!

For better or worse he is going to get paid handsomely, barring a monumental regression. Nature of the position... there are only 30 LTs in game. Hopefully we can get a good deal out of it, or move on.

Exactly.

If he wants a big contract let him walk.

Draft someone else.

People act like "oh noes! Another first round O lineman!" but we've only drafted O line once in the first round the last 5 years. It's not like we've been throwing high draft picks at the position.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

So, who are the 2 teams that don't field a LT?

Fisher is around 15-20 range when it comes to LTs. He shouldn't get more than 5 years $40-50 mil unless he improves even more or consistently plays at the same level as he did later in the year when he was actually playing pretty well and looked like he could be a top 10 guy (if you don't believe so then you haven't seen some of the other LTs in the league).

The longer we wait, the higher the price is going to go. Fisher is an ascending player that plays a premium position.

In my book, right now Dorsey is probably putting something like 50/5 on the table for Fish.

Now, with two years worth of leverage on the team's side, it's up to Fisher to either take that or bet on himself.

If he's worth 65 million, he'll pull a Justin Houston and prove it. If not, he can take the 10-11 per year or walk.

It's really that simple.

If I'm Eric Fisher and his agent, and I recognize how much improvement I (he) showed over the course of last season, I don't seriously consider entering extension negotiations until after next season.

Well, that's certainly a wise idea in theory, it's what I would likely do. But they have to consider the fact that he has struggled to stay on the field at times, one big injury and it all goes down the drain.

Quite the gamble considering his injury history and the fact he's only had one decent season.

I've said this numerous times as it relates to football, and it applies here.

Without risk, there can be no reward.

Can't argue that. Guess we'll see how much gamble he has in him.

Solid payday, or take the risk for a slightly bigger payday.
