The Turner Gill Coaching Staff Thread.

Ok...

so, admittedly, I've never been a huge college football fan. KU was RARELY on tv growing up... and I was outside of their radio area... didn't really care.

I didn't really like football until 84 when Montana vs Marino magic was going on... I was 11.

KU made a couple bowl games in early 90's... but nothing grasped me. I did watch the 95 Bowl game in Hawaii...

Then I moved to KU... and got my apartments right across from the football stadium in Berkley Flats. 1108 Mississippi, my patio door facing the stadium... I used to run all around there... it was awesome.

Anyway, Manginosaurus Rex is gone... he brought some respectability to KU football since the 60's, really.

Now Turner Gill is here... and is quietly assembling a pretty bad ass coaching staff... at least in theory.

Turner Gill.

Chuck Long.

Carl Torbush.

Now, HCTG has added another member to his coaching staff. Illinois recruiting coordinator/running backs coach Reggie Mitchell will become KU’s new running-backs coach, sources have told The Star. Mitchell, who is known as one of the top recruiters in the country, has been at Illinois since 2005.

With Chuck Long and Carl Torbush, both having been head coaches... and getting some great recruiters. I would say that KU football looks better than KC Chiefs football.

MU wins the North next year... but KU will be doing good soon. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not sure I understand.

I guess it means the last receiver in recruiting class A is better than this guy, and some have hypothesized he would be the best receiver in recruiting class B, or maybe even on team B.

Does that explain my statement? When you compare that Mizzou had one scholly left, signed the 3-star d-back over the 4-star wide receiver, it should clarify the point I made.

I didn't take it as a knock on Keeston Terry but it was stupid because Terry choose KU before Mangino was gone. He said before his visit to MU that KU was still the school for him but he wanted to reassure himself of that. I realize he could have switched to MU at the time but he didn't and the only people I have seen say that he was switching to MU or that he wanted to but there was not enough room was MU fans. Obviously MU has a great recruiting class and had a great weekend to top it off but unless I missed something there has been nothing but fans making up stuff about Terry since his MU visit.

So if KU is irrelevant in football, why all the obsession from MU and NE fans on what KU is doing?

Seems strange.. They tell us that we dont matter, yet they keep posting about everything KU is doing...

12th place in the Big 12 doesn't help the case

I don't know... but they did beat Mizzou, so "Yay, Bears!".

Ok, tied for last place. My apologies. I did not mean to deny all the prestige that goes with 11th place (tied) rather than 12th.

Schneider hit the nail on the head. Terry has been committed to KU for a long time. He even said he took the MU visit because he wanted to make sure that KU was still the right place to go after the coaching change. IIRC his dad is a KU guy and he has always been a fan so acting like he only choose the school because Mizzou didn't want him is pure bs.

It's actually not BS. I don't know if Terry would have come to MU for sure or not, but it is true that he was openly entertaining the thought of playing at MU. Perhaps he wasn't telling the truth, but he told coaches, current players, and other recruits that he was leaning towards committing to Missouri. Had McDonald not switched, there is a good chance Terry would be at MU. Would it have happened for sure? Nobody knows and I certainly won't claim that. But to claim that it wasn't a distinct possibility is incredibly naive given his comments to the staff and other players.

This is why I haven't got too worked up about the last two football games between KU-MU "yippee were number 6" just doesn't have the same ring ring to it. After the game 2 years ago for the Big 12 north title that the winner got to play a game a game that if they won, the team would have been playing for the mythical national championship. I expected much more out of both programs the last two years and didn't get it.

Based on the volatile nature of college football recruiting, it's fairly safe to say that verbal commitments are as good as they paper they are written on.

Terry is a good player from everything I have heard. He also wanted to go to Mizzou. We're stacked at WR, and we didn't have a scholarship available for him. We needed a 3 star DB more than another 4 star WR. (Now we have 2 of each.) If he winds up going to KU, he will be one of the top players in your recruiting class. That's not an insult to Kansas unless you think that your program and recruiting is on par with Missouri's. If that's the case, I'm sorry that you are delusional.
