Q&A WR CRAPHONSO THORPE
Apr 30, 2005, 1:05:03 PM Q: Are you finding it tough to learn the playbook in such a short period of time? THORPE: “It’s just a process that the rookies and newcomers have to go through. But we’ll make it through.” Q: Coach Vermeil said you weren’t able to show your full speed Friday, how long does it take for you to show that off? THORPE: “It’s just a matter of getting used to the routes and getting the timing with the quarterbacks. Our natural ability is what got us here. Right now we’re not really playing with that, we’re thinking a lot. In college our senior year some fifth-year seniors didn’t even really have to think. It was just about going out there and playing. Right now I think there are a lot first-year year guys out here thinking a lot, myself included. Once we figure that out, we’ll be okay.” Q: Is it nice to have your mother and father with you here this weekend? THORPE: “Definitely. It’s always good to have somebody to support you and keep you positive and stay behind you and push you. Q: How have you had to fight through the reputation that track athletes who play football are really just track athletes? THORPE: “I’m not a track guy. I’m just a football guy who just has blazing speed to run track. There is a difference. There are some track guys who go out and play football, but that’s not me. I play football and I’m just fast enough to run track.” |
