Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Yeah. As I said earlier in this thread.... I was really pleasantly surprised by the movie. It finishes, at this point, in 2nd behind Inglorious Bastards for my best movie I saw from that year list. Fantastic Mr. Fox is, seriously, working its way into my 3rd spot at this point. The main reason is that it took an "animated" film to remind me of what I loved about Wes Anderson's filmmaking. I'd sort of lost my enjoyment of his work after Life Aquatic, but this brought it back home.

That being said, I haven't even seen all of the 2009 Oscar contenders at this point.

Aliens is one of my all time fave cinematic movies ever. Ill never forget the audience reaction was incredible.

One of the really great audience participation flicks of all time. People went NUTS when Ripley came out atthe end and declared "Get away from her you B*tch!"

I watched The Men Who Stare at Goats and The Blind Side last night.

The Men Who Stare at Goats was bizarre, but I thought quite enjoyable. I wasn't fond of the ending, but overall I liked it.

The Blind Side was good. I don't think Sandra Bullock deserved the Oscar. She was good, don't get me wrong, but I didn't think she was that good.

The wife brought home The Informant this morning.

I watched it last night too and I came away with the same sentiment. Bizarre, enjoyable, ending didn't quite rise to the occasion enough to make me say it was a really good movie, but overall I liked it.

heh.....Franchise killer. I was ready to kill Fincher after that flick.....then he made Seven a few years later and all was forgiven. He should almost be allowed to remake that flick.

Watched Law Abiding Citizen last night. I thought it was an above average story with some suspect acting and mediocre writing. Decent.

Of course, I'm always a sucker for the backstory, origin, slow buildup stories.

Fantastic Mr. Fox 8/10 very enjoyable story, more adult themed than most probably would expect, but still okay for kids.

The Men Who Stare at Goats 6/10 interesting premise, but fell kind of flat for me.

It was, without a doubt, bizarre but it wasn't nearly as funny as I thought it was going to be. Almost too much bizarre and not enough funny. I can't say I liked it much.

Weird, because we usually agree. Of course, it's the second quirky comedy we've disagreed on as of late. The other being, of course, Burn After Reading, which was terrible.

I agree. I liked the premise, but the second half didn't seem to have any humor in it at all.
