Nascar and advertising... what it has become?

I don't watch must Nascar but do catch a few races each year on the tube. It just seems to me that all that matters is for every person they interview must first say the team sponsors name then the make of the car and then take a gulp of the sponsor beverage while making sure the label is turned towards the camera. The Ronald Mcdonald House commercial has a damn Budweiser racer standing next to a child and Ronald Mcdonald? Is it not going downhill? I wonder how the number have been over the past few years?

Yes, sponsorship mentions are a completely new thing in NASCAR. Haven't been around for 40 years or anything.

While watching when I was a kid in the 80's I never noticed this. It was Winston Cup and STP that is all I remember from those days.

Sponsorship mentioning began right around the same time that Nascar kept tweaking the cars to make racing more competitive and "cheaper for the teams" . The teams have to spend more so they need more sponsor dollars. And the quality of racing continues to deteriorate. So basically Nascar is a smaller model of our government.

I disagree. Races used to be decided by laps, not milliseconds.

that's why Danica Patrick is such a natural fit ... she's a freaking advertising whore. I don't know that there is anything she wouldn't do to make a buck.

Yep, as long as she can be somewhat competitive, basically the female version of Dale Jr.

I'll say the COT has been a disappointment outside of safety, but I'm hoping that changes this year with the new package and the upcoming switch back to a spoiler.

The days where Richard Petty could lap the entire field is long gone. If that happened now there would be no fans.
I will agree that the cars are closer together but there is certainly a select few that are good and then there's a bunch that aren't. It all boils down to money and who has and spends the most. It's no different than any other sport except Nascar publicly stresses it is trying to save the teams money when everything they do costs more money.
