Malaysia Airlines loses contact with plane carrying 239 people

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane with 239 aboard enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The airline said in a statement early Saturday it was attempting to locate the Boeing 777 after it lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40 a.m. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m.

China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported the plane was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam, and did not make contact with Chinese air traffic controllers.

The plane is carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members. The airline said it is working with authorities to locate the plane.

Boeing said on its Twitter account it is monitoring the situation, and "our thoughts are with everyone on board."

Well that wasn't reassuring at all. Confirmed what happened was intentional. If I followed that correctly, the PM said they think the plane could've taken one of two paths given the last data they received. A southern corridor from Indonesia into the south Indian Ocean... or a northern corridor all the way to Kazakhstan. Yikes.

well, im going to bed.

my own spooky, slightly-crazy theory is a suicide with a purpose. Pilot is ready to die, but doesn't want it to look like a suicide. He makes it look like the plane just mysteriously vanished in some kind of "asian triangle", living on in legend, never to be seen again. He makes sure of it by sneaking it out into the middle of nowhere in the south indian ocean far from any likely search areas before going down.

He specifically said the Kazakhstan/Turkmenistan border to northern Thailand. Which is a huge area. That doesn't mean that's where it is... but it sounded like they need to examine a path from those points all the way to Malaysia.

He made a comment about attempting to get radar data from other countries to examine these potential flight paths. Sounded like they were abandoning the South China Sea search they've been harping on the last few days.

And then there's the southern corridor, which is most of the southern indian ocean.

To me, that sounds like they figured out the distance from the plane to one or more of the satellites during a ping, but since the earth is a globe that means at least 2 areas on the globe. (well, really a circle on the globe, but we can eliminate chunks of the circle due to radar and fuel)
