How many catholic weddings with a cash bar have you been to? I was born catholic and most weddings around here start at 1:00 and end at midnight. If they have a cash bar, the drinks average about $5 a drink. Between the wife and myself that can add up quickly. Yes, I have the money, but not everybody is in the same financial situation. Plus asking people to rent a tuxedo? That's incredibly tacky. |

Good idea, but it really shouldn't even have to be noted.
If an invitation is addressed to you/you & you spouse, especially to a formal or semi-formal event, why the **** would it be assumed that yer kids are invited too? |

I went to a wedding a couple weeks ago where the couple contracted everything out (i.e., not at a hotel where you are forced to use their services).
They hired a couple of bartenders, and bought all the booze themselves. It was quite a bit cheaper that way. |

But really, it should be stated. They'll always be that one asshole who brings some kid to a big wedding party. |

Having just gotten married, yes they are stupid expensive. Still, hospitality for the guests was the thing I wouldn't budge on. You don't have to serve single malts or anything, but making guests, many of whom have traveled, shell out cash for a couple drinks is weak. Just my opinion.

The family one row ahead of me at my daughter's three hour graduation ceremony Saturday, had what seemed to be a two year old and a three year old. I couldn't hear a thing with her constantly having to talk to them. So ruuuuuuude! Those ages are not going to be able to sit through a ceremony THAT long. I wasn't even sure I would be able to.

Some people have a cash bar for a period of time, then close it. Afterwards you pay. Seems like a good compromise.
