I get pitching around a guy to get to a pitcher batting I guess, but do you really walk the winning run into scoring position? With 2 outs, a bloop hit will have the baserunner flying at contact and the run likely scores easily.

I guess I understand it. I still don't like it. Bloops happen.

It's an utterly ****ing stupid strategy.

Kind of like when Al was going on the other night about someone in the minors who hit 50 HRs every year but was never called up b/c he K'd 150 times. "Because you have to put the ball in play."

Yeah, as Yadi has proven so thoroughly today.

Some guys will look at this game and notice the fact that the Cardinals bench has been wildly ineffective and as a consequence we've played 9 extra innings.

Matheny, OTOH, will see that we've played 9 extra innings and use it as proof that he needs a 14 man pitching staff. He'll promptly call Hatley back up in response.

I can't decide if Peralta attempting a steal with 2 outs was ridiculously stupid with a power hitter at the plate or genius because Reynolds had 2 strikes and would surely strike out.

And that's likely game.

A manager wants to get his regulars rest (two days after the ASB ended and the day before an off day, FFS). But, rather than benching them a player at a time, he decides to sit them all. So, predictably, when the horrible players can't scratch across any runs, you completely eviscerate your bullpen, burn two starters for the price of one, and burn all said regulars for single PH appearances.

Mike Matheny. Mike ****in' Matheny.

Took 29 hits to score the first 3 runs in this game. That's amazing.

I feel like he just vaguely remembers Tony LaRussa's getaway day lineups so he decides to use them on occassion.

The difference being that 1) LaRussa actually rotated his bench players in fairly regularly so he had sharp players that would sub in and play well (Eduardo Perez, Craig Paquette, Abraham Nunez and others all proved to be excellent bench weapons for us under TLR) and 2) LaRussa wouldn't have gone full getaway day 2 days after the ASB and the day before an off day.

Just a ridiculous way to utilize your roster.

Strauss' troll ass can get ****ed. Mike Matheny deserves about as much credit for this team's success as Barry Switzer did for the Cowboys'.

I'm not a Matheny fan. He definitely uses get away days like Larussa. But, come on man we don't know whats up in the locker room. Maybe Holiday is hurting more than we know, Maybe he retweaked it a little? We don't know how sick Heyward was the last few days. We have no clue how ****ed up Carp is in the head right now. Maybe he had no choice.

It was the Mets. We beat them down the day before. They play like shit on the road. Looked like a good day to give them a day off. In all 3 cases above. getting a day off is not related to the All-Star break.

Not this year. But he only made me mad last year with his bullpen management and using Scott Downs ... You know, ever

Now we have Madson, Hochevar and Morales with Finnegan as the long guy. Oh, and Herrera, Davis and Holland. So he literally can't **** anything up.

I don't even blame him for sticking with Rios and Infante, either. He also put Moose at 2 and Cain at 3 (last year) and it did wonders for both guys' confidence

I also recognize that baseball is a grind and all 25 guys need to contribute during the regular season and the Royals have the best record in the AL. I thoroughly enjoy watching every game. I don't Pete or cardinals fan it the whole time and Bitch and moan when my team is 20 ****ing games over .500

If Joe Schmo read through this thread and didn't know a thing about baseball he'd conclude the cardinals are awful ... And they have the best record in baseball

Hamas and DJ conceded the division after 1 unfortunate series and Hamas set the O/U at 92 ... Because an all star cyborg closer showed he was human for 1 weekend

It's comical at the very least
