The director is from ****ing South Africa and has made a point, at every ****ing opportunity, to point out his films reflect that situation. He has commented numerous times on the idea that wealth equals power and poverty equals helplessness. To make this a left vs. right argument is ignorance. This isn't a hollywood agenda film - it's a man with hollywood money making a film...

Here is a quote from Sharlto on Bloomkamps new film it sounds like hes not going to really have a message in this one.
Both District 9 and Blomkamp's sophomore film Elysium had sociopolitical themes. When asked if Chappie also touched upon real world issues, the actor said, "This one no. This one not so much man." Adding, "This one's having fun. There's not a big social/political message in this one. There are some things that some people might take away, but it's very different from the last two in the way." This link also has footage of his short film that is the precursor to Chappie called Tetra Vaal. The rap / rave group Die Antwoord plays the gangsters that kidnap Chappie. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/...-halo-unlikely |
