We have a tough as shit draw. The only winnable game appears to be Ghana and they knocked us out of the last one. Portugal and Germany are going to eat our lunch. If we make it out of the group stage (highly unlikely) it will be quite the achievement.

Ghana knocked us out of the last two WC's. If Klinsmann takes the hot 23 and not guys just because they are "big names" I think the team this year is better than the 2010 WC team and Ghana is relatively the same so thats a very winnable game. We can beat Portugal if Ronaldo has an off day or squeak out a tie if he is on. We can beat Germany if they've already won both thier previous games and are playing reserves.

US travels the furthest of any team in the group stage so jet lag could also play a factor.

Agree that getting into the Rd of 16 would be huge.

Think the biggest factor is that the US just isn't very good at soccer. What are they ranked? 15th in the world as a country with our best team ranked like 200th.

I've probably mentioned this before around here, but the problem is most of the US's bests athletes join other sports besides soccer. Too much competition in the US. Other countries around the world, Soccer might be a young athletes only or primary option.
