****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

I don't think it's a coincidence that this team has shit the bed after its highest profile victories and rankings (moving up to #1 in '07, beating OU in '10). Let the talking heads banter about that stupid shit. Don't worry about it. Just focus on the next team.
  • Stop talking about Atlanta. Don't tempt fate. Any fan of Missouri should know that you don't take the slightest thing for granted. We can't trust officials to count downs, and we can't expect that a ball won't be illegally kicked into the air to be caught by another diving receiver. For all we know, an AIDS comet could hit CoMo right before the next game. Focus on South Carolina, beat their ass, and then think about the next game. Don't get ahead of yourselves
  • Pinkel's in-game coaching is still extremely worrisome. I understand the desire to be conservative against a team with a bad offense, but in two straight conference games we've gotten blitzed out of halftime. That needs to stop.
  • For all the rightfully deserved props given to the players and coaches this year, recruiting is still abysmal. The staff needs to take advantage of this season. If they don't, this team is going to be a one-year wonder, not a perennial contender in the conference, and it has the resources and facilities to do that.
That doesn't mean that you shouldn't be ecstatic about the year so far, but don't start sucking dicks in celebration just yet, either.
Agree on '10, '07 OU was just better and proved it twice. Regardless your point has merit. Too many MU teams in the past have rested on their laurels after a win like that when the reality is they haven't accomplished anything substantial yet. Lose Sat and SC is 1 game back w/ the tie breaker and tough games w/ OM, aTm, and UT on our horizon. This team seems to get it in that respect though. When we lose I don't think that will be the reason.

And your last point re: recruiting et al couldn't be truer. Nothing to add to that other than agreeance.

This team was expected to win 6.5 games per Vegas. If the season ended today, Pinkel would be the National Coach of the Year. First time South Carolina gains a yard, you'll be out for blood, though.

Considering the time he's put in, should he NOT have already produced a BCS birth?

Good thoughts, all.

I thought the drive right after Florida's kickoff return was the most important one of the game. Florida/its fans were hyped up after the kickoff return... and Missouri promptly stopped on their throat, with a couple of methodical runs and a big play in the passing game (that I thought was a pick live but was actually a great read/better throw from Mauk when watching the replay).

That's something Missouri teams haven't done in the past (same thing with the double-pass TD last week).

I don't think they'd be quite as conservative against a team that can put up more points. Florida's offense was completely overwhelmed for most of the game. I also think you're a little more aggressive in those 4th down situations with a more experienced QB.

Recruiting is picking back up, but I think the biggest bump will be for next class. The 2014 class is already pretty far down the road. It's possible they add a few high profile guys, but I wouldn't count on a lot. 2015 looks promising, though, with a lot of Southeast region guys having big interest in Mizzou.

If Mauk continues to play that well, the Franklin injury could be a blessing in disguise for 2014... enter the season with some experience and confidence at the QB spot (and get credit nationally for it, which helps rankings, which help recruiting).

And even though there are some significant losses (Washington... Sam... Lucas... Franklin... Gaines... Britt... Wilson), this team will return a lot of talent (a lot more than I was thinking a few months ago):

QB: Mauk
RB: Josey/Hansbrough/Murphy
WR: DGB/Sasser/Jimmie Hunt/Darius White/J'Mon Moore
OL: Boehm/Morse/McGovern/Gatti/McNulty/Clay Rhodes (going to be a star LT, I think, after rs-ing this year

DE: Ealy/Golden/Ray/Loud (have heard RAVE reviews about him)
DT: Hoch, Vincent, Augusta, Brantley, Crawford,

LB: Brothers/Ruise

CB: Penton/Gibson/Ponder
S: Webb/Simon/Singleton

Should still be a very good team, though I don't know it will be quite as "special" as this group has been so far.

Yeah, because all happy, well adjusted people enjoying their team's success go out of their way to a complete **** about it to other fans after the game's over in a pathetic attempt to prop themselves up. That's a true mark of inner joy. What an interweb stallion you are, SaulMonitor!

Gabe DeArmond just said that Franklin WILL be back for sure this year. He was catching passes on the sideline and flipping the ball to Mauk to throw. Also said that James reared back a few times as if he was going to throw it but didn't...didn't look to be in any pain.

Sorry you're an idiot who shits all over our coach every time things get the slightest bit rough. Keep doing it, and I'm going to keep calling you on it. It makes the game threads unbearable.

I know you try to act like it's just me, since I'm the only one who lives in your bitchy ****ing head 24/7, but seriously, it's... pretty much all of us.

It sure is cute watching you try to pretend like it isn't, though. Poor widdle SaulMonitor, trying to rally the troops, but nobody's stepping in behind him. Story of your life, right? Why don't these fools recognize your brilliance!

I'm not superstitious. I don't think the fans thoughts about respect or Atlanta have much to do with the team's performance. It's the players who should be taking your advice.

And, even though I basically agree with most of what you typed, there's also some connection between hype and recruiting so being underhyped has both pros and cons.
