Its been reported that the Jets are promoting Dennis Thurman, which is good because I really don't want Rob here in any capacity

And thankfully Rob will want to be a DC somewhere and some team will take him in that capacity. IDK what we are going to do about our linebacker coach but I'm more nervous about getting the right GM

Interesting hire, if not a flashy one. Thanks for the update, TBG! Here are the Jets' defensive rankings by year for the period where Sutton was DC:

2006: 18.4 PPG (6th), 331.6 YPG (20th)
2007: 22.2 PPG (19th) 331.9 YPG (18th)
2008: 22.3 PPG (18th) 329.4 YPG (16th)

With the exception of the PPG ranking in 2006, the guy didn't exactly coordinate world-class defense in NY during his tenure there. I'm sure that there are other factors that led to these stats (poor coaching from the top, for instance), but I'd like the hire more if he'd already shown some success in the past. It's not as if he's going to get much in the way of support or direction from Reid, but I can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Time will tell!
