Hold the kid responsible for his choices but some introspection on the parents actions is also needed.

Hey asshole. I was in New Orleans when this game showed up. As soon as I saw that it was in the house, I took care of it.

JFC. You really are a twunt.

So he was home alone while you were in NO or was there a spouse that allowed the situation to happen while you were gone? Did your son hack your XBox account in order to use the saved debit card information or did you forget to delete or pasword protect it?

Look, you might be a fantastic parent who goofed up in this one area. He might be a phenomenal kid who saw an opening. The key is to not only punish his mistakes but to realize what part we played in the situation. That is how we learn to parent better and that is how they learn to avoid repeating mistakes.

Not exactly. I am saying there is lax or inconsistent parenting if the child not only 'stole' a game he was not allowed to play but also had unfettered access to the internet and stored credit card info. There might be a pattern here but it involves more than just the kid.

These are types of issues you hear about for a 13-15 year old. Not at 11.

Yet you didn't hesitate to assume the worse and blame the parent.

Stupid ****ing ****.

It's called common sense. I don't need some fat British bitch to tell me how to raise kids.

You might not but you might be stunned at the number of parents who do.

Those parents aren't going to figure it out from watching that reeruned show.

That's like saying that guys who don't appreciate their wives suddenly will after watching Wife Swap.

Perhaps he should send his 11 year old to the Naughty Corner?

No he should take away his Xbox, internet, and other technology access. He should assign more chores and have the kid make enough money to buy back his access. Say half the cost of the Xbox if it is shared. He should NOT ground him from sports or other activities that encourage time away from video games. He should also limit play dates and sleepovers where he would have access to video games for the duration that he has lost his Xbox privileges.

The parents could use the time of reflection that accompanies the naughty corner.

I'd take the younger, fitter Supernanny to the Naughty Corner.

Off topic, but everyone should get their kids into a sport or other activity or two that will give them something to do other than video games. I don't care if it's a sport, scouts, fishing, hunting, etc. Anything is better than video games. My kids get a half an hour of the wii if they are REALLY good and schoolwork and sports practice is done. Make time to take them fishing, exploring, or whatever it takes.
