Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I've been wanting a Kimber ultra Crimson carry ii for quite a while but don't really care for the two tone finish

I just saw they have a new 2015 model eclispe ultra carry ii which has the Crimson trace grip. Now, I just gotta find about 1700 for it

Kimbers are nice, and I agree, I have never been a fan of two-tone guns.

I think this is as good as any thread to post this.

I'm heading out to Colorado to do some skiing and some hiking. I'm concerned about being in the wilderness during our hike and would like to bring a firearm to provide some protection against any wildlife that may pose a danger to me. Anyone familiar with Colorado gun laws? I'm worried about capacity limits as my pistol holds 19 rounds. I'm not interested in carrying it in any populated areas, just while I'm hiking. Any advice would be appreciated.

Colorado has open carry and they have CCW reciprocatity with quite a few states. If you have ccw just google whatever state you have it in with reciprocatity laws.

If they have open carry, I'm not worried about CCW. I only want to have it for the hiking portion of my trip. Any idea on the capacity limits?

Call the police and ask them directly.

Denver is the only strange place to worry about, and even then they aren't that far out of whack.

I know they are limited to 10 round mags for things like an AR/AK but other than that I'm not sure.

Denver PD told me that +10 is completely legal.

If your mag was purchased before a certain date you are good to go. Don't try to sell in inside the border, though!

When I talked to the local PD he told me it was completely legal to transport my AR-10's through town as long as I didn't have a round chambered. I took it a step further and separated the mags and locked the carrying cases.

I also took down his name, and time of call just in case.

What kind of pistol care you packing? I'm just guessing if it holds 19 rounds you aren't killing very many "life threatening" critters outside of a possum or squirrel.

Seriously, I would say nothing less than a .357. I mean what is going to be a threat while hiking? A bear or mountain lion. I guess if you cross a moose in rut you'll need to be tree climbing.

I will defer to Bwana on all of this but if you try popping a charging bear with a 9mm you might as well just pour some BBQ sauce on you for the bear.

As I understand it, you can open-carry your firearm in CO State Parks as long as you can legally own a firearm. Also you can carry high capacity magazines if you are from out of state. The 10 round limit only applies to CO residence. But I would double check all of that.

Its a 9 mm. I know its not going to take down a bear or wolf or anything, but its better than relying on my hands. We're hiking deep enough help won't be around the corner, and I would just feel better having some protection. One of the few times I've actually had regrets about not having the .45.
