Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

I don't love it or anything. I did think that it was engaging in how different it is from other films. Its so cold and distant. Appropriate because it is a film that is very much about distance, emotional distance and the inability to connect. Its also about the distance between desires and what the economy will allow you to obtain. Extending this -- the very nature of how one obtains what they desire puts distance between the desired and the desirous. That nature is of transaction, of business.

It was one of the few films last year that attempted to talk about the economic state of things, and there's something to be said for that.

You'd make a horrible movie marketing guy.

Yes I would. The marketing of a film is in nearly all cases inappropriate. People, on the whole, don't want to go see good art.

Public Enemies finally found it's way to the top of my list. It was better than I had expected (probably because so many people lowered expectations). I preferred the Assassination of Jessie James.

Planet 51 was one of the worst animated movies I've seen in a long time. I gave it one star on Netflixs, which is only the 2nd or 3rd time I've done that.

Pretty much what he said. They seemed like similar stories to me.

I went to see Crazy Heart last night. BORING!. Old country singer goes to bar and gets drunk and sings, then goes to motel room and gets more drunk, meets girl, gets drunk some more, throws up, bla, bla, bla.

The End.

Way, way better than I expected.

Watched Everbody's Fine. Kind of boring overall, but it's one that definitely makes you think about the importance of family and acceptance.

I watched Up in the Air, and I loved it. My picks out of the Oscar nominees at this point are IB first and UitA second.
