Keitzman just told Clark he never once in his life doubted Clarks decisions as owner of the KC Chiefs.

KK is trying to become the next Whitlock, but he isn't any good at it. It's quite funny.

The best part of the questions to me was when the reporter asked him why he didn't take a year off. "This is what I do." Hilarious, bitch smacked! Don't tell the walrus to take the winter off, he needs to get his fish!

This made me not wana listen to 810. They have no idea what happened with Reid and his family. Therefore isnt qualified to talk about it.

So finally got to sit down at watch the press conference a few minutes ago. Sounds like a different management dynamic than Reid had in Philly but knowing his tells I could pick up on a few things.
In Philly he had started off with a lot of personnel control but had a GM that understood his scheme well. Over time the GM role shifted to cap manager and most recently sabermetrician as Reid was losing his control. In all of those structures in Philly decision-making was a three way exercise with the coach, owner, and GM all having different weigh ins at different times. A bit of a mess. On the surface in today's conference, Reid directly answered the question of whether he would make personnel choices by stating that the General Manager would make all personnel decisions. So here's a critical thing - it gives Reid an out if the pick, transaction, move doesn't work out as it wasn't his choice. I think this is a bit of a foregone conclusion, but it's important that Clark and Reid finish the job of hiring a GM that works with Reid. Don't take this as a given until the hiring is done. Many here are saying "Reid will pick this and Reid will sign that" but the words clearly stated were that a new GM has that responsibility. Another taken for granted obvious point, but important is that Reid was tripping around his words carefully when addressing "his" draft strategy and whether he would take a QB in he 1/1 slot. He all but said he would but then deferred to the phantom GM. Not sure whether the hedge indicates he's hinting that he's really driving the bus as most suspect or whether he's just showing respect for Hunt to maintain control of his management staff and ultimate decision making. Reid said he'd be in the interviews with the GM candidates but ultimately it was Clark's decision. Don't treat those words lightly. It's really important to understand that dynamic to know how the team will approach roster moves, free agency, drafts, etc. Reid has basically just said, "I'm here to coach". If you doubt that and believe he's pulling GM strings, ask yourself what professional would come in as GM and be willing to take a role where they got all the credit / blame for the moves driven by someone else (the HC) if Reid were really in charge. I'm not preaching doom and gloom by any means, but two things in summary - the two things I was listening for the most given Reid's recent history: 1) The GM must be aligned with Reid for this to work - Clark's job is only half done. 2) it's very important to dig into the HC/GM/Clark relationship triangle to understand and predict the moves to be made.

That said, I don't think the previous regime could scout or develop talent worth a shit and I'd be weary of cutting him before mini-camps, maybe even training camp. Furthermore, SNR and others have said he's the equivilent to Kirk Cousins. So who's right and who is wrong? |

You're an intriguer of high brass Eagle Rob, it must be a 24/7 maelstrom over there in Philly.
But if i had to guess, Reid will get all of the control he desires, including final say on a GM who he knows can work hand in glove with him, from Clark Hunt. I believe Clark when he says he's going to stay more involved with the team, but he's one of those rare owners who will give someone he believes to be the right guy, a lot of control, he has no airs about him of being a football guru. This is pretty much going to be an Andy Reid picked organization from top to bottom i'd bet, with Clark having learned his recent lesson and claiming some fine print new authority to act during a disasters. Thats probably pretty much what it took to get the guy signed so quick, real control without the megalomania of our recent gm who shall not be named. Keep posting, you've got great scuttlebut. |
