You are assuming they can get a 2nd round pick for Albert. Also, Albert is a known proven commodity. There is a value in that. A rookie LT to protect your QB who has a penchant for a lack of pocket presence/taking sacks, along with a new RT, and a center coming off a huge injury. They better draft an extremely mobile QB late in the draft.

What if something else happens?

What if we trade Buffalo the 1.1 for their 1.8, 2nd rounder, and 2014 2nd rounder, then trade albert to say, Detroit for their 2nd rounder, + 2014 second rounder, and then draft Lane Johnson?

Then it breaks down like this.

Alex Smith + the 1.8 pick (Johnson), the 2.4 pick, 2.10 ,and two 2.X in 2014, all total.

We end up with an upgrade from Cassel to Smith, move back 7 spots and take Johnson instead of Luke, as a direct starting replacement for Albert, get two top 10 2nd rounders in this years' draft, and add two mid 2nd rounders in next years draft.

The whole picture looks a lot better this way, imo, than on an individual transaction basis.

He had a great playoff game. You don't lead by being a game manager, sorry.
He beat Drew Brees and had to outscore them. Because that "vaunted" 49er D couldnt stop Brees

I'm sure it's been said, but I'm not reading this thread. Just more rational posts to piss me off and ruin my irrational optimism over this team.

That said, it just brings ****ing joy to my heart to know that we traded 1.1, 2.2, and Brandon ****ing Albert for Alex Smith, Luke Joeckel, and whatever pick we get after 2.2 in the 2nd round this year. That's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ****ing better than Geno Smith, Brandon Albert, and whatever stud we could've got at the top of the 2nd. These guys are proven, what do I know?

I agree there is value in a known commodity at LT, but there is also value in a known commodity at QB. If you're going to cite that argument one direction you have to acknowledge it in the other direction. One can't have it both ways. In the two scenarios under discussion you either risk Geno - an unproven commodity - over Alex Smith, or you risk Joekel / Fisher over Albert. I get the idea that risk at QB may be more worth it due to the potential payoff, but obviously the Chiefs believe there is a higher percentage chance at success going the way they are going.

That's sort of the problem. We know the commodity we have at QB and that commodity reeks of pig shit.

Alex Smith technically isn't a proven commodity because we aren't sure WHICH Alex Smith we're getting.

I don't mind they trade as long as they draft another quaterback.

Could there be a quality tackle in the second?

If we don't go tackle at #1, then the next best thing is to pick up the younger Long in round 2-3 range. He is sorta raw but powerful and athletic.

40+ years of mediocrity says otherwise.

This pathetic franchise is 3-12 in playoff games since Super Bowl IV, but they'll go with the retread since its less risky.

Which completely destroys the true fan argument. A strong running game and defense is only good enough to get you a first round exit. You need a developed franchise QB to win in this league. If the guy you draft doesn't work out, then you try again. You have to at least ****ing try to reap the rewards.

Why is BA so coveted for being a known commodity? Yet Geno, who we no ****ing idea about, is a pro bowler?

Not quite. Even 2011-2012 Alex Smith is barely acceptable. The Chiefs are ignoring 6 or 7 seasons of suck, and hedging their bet that Alex Smith can be even more than he was in 11-12.

Logic predicts which Alex Smith we're getting. But the Chiefs are betting against those odds and hoping they can get more out of Smith than 7 out of 8 previous offensive coordinators have.
