sure there is. people get seriously injured and die from it. Just because you are gliding under a parachute doesn't mean shit. People plummet because of canopy collapse, or in the case of one instance I know in Puerto Vallarta, a wind gust blew them over the beach into the side of a hotel.

Odds of dying in a car crash are probably higher.

Did that in Tampa. Boring and a waste of money IMO.

I've done parasailing before, was lots of fun, but after a few minutes I started getting sick. Fortunately I came down in just enough time to keep from carpet bombing the safety people below~

It is awesome and definitely worth it. The initial lifting and raising is probably the best part. I got a little motion sick after a while but I am prone to that.

This is my wife and I in Turks and Caicos. The island we were on is only about a mile wide and 12 miles long so we could see almost the entire thing, if not the entire thing. I don't recall now.

Ok, I did it. Total blast.
Someone was going up when I got there so I had to wait. I was a little skiddish about the whole thing. The guy before me starts doing these spins where the pilot and passenger were parallel to the earth along with the glider shoot. "On no, I'm not doing that, I'm out of here." But I stayed. I asked how long the pilot had been doing this: 16 years. This is a good sign. He has a crew of about 5 on shore and another 3 in the boat. A couple of the shore crew are Americans. It looked like the whole group smoked weed every night. The contract was made up from another company where the previous company name was obviously replaced with this company and some other high risk activity was replaced with "paragliding". Their total liability according to the contract was 100,000 pesos. What the hell. I told the pilot "No spins". The ride was fantastic. Taking off being towed by the boat was no big deal, since I have a lot of experience with water skiing and I'm not afraid of heights as long as my footing is good. In this case, the sling I was sitting in felt like I was in the hand of God. We went really high up in the beginning maybe 1000 feet. When they untethered from the boat there was absolutely no difference in the feel of the ride. Visibility was great. Totally great view. No thrills. I think he took it extra easy on me due to my freaking out before launch. I would have liked to get the sensation of flying without the sensation of crashing. Maybe next time I'll let the pilot let it rip a little more. He was in total control. Great experience. Would recommend. I skipped the photos and videos that would have nearly doubled the price. |

Did that in Swiss Alps. I think it lasted at least 15 minutes. Worth it.
