So who are we gonna take in the 2nd round?

We already know the #1 selection goes to Geno Smith, no more worrying about that.

So, who's gonna be available in the 2nd round? I know we can't truly know, especially not before the combine. But do we have anybody in mind?

Looks like some of these guys will be available around that time

S Matt Elam, Florida
TE Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame
WR Tavon Austin, WVU
QB Matt Barkley, USC
OT DJ Fluker, Alabama
WR DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson
WR Robert Woods, USC
CB Jordan Poyer, Oregon St
LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia
S Robert Lester, Alabama
WR Terrance Williams, Baylor

I'm really not too sure at this point but Austin would be a good pick and maybe Elam 2nd.

CB - Xavier Rhodes - Florida State would have to be near the top of my list of potential candidates.
How about S - Eric Reid - LSU?
How about WR - Justin Hunter - Tennessee

This. I have seen a lot of mocks saying NE may take Rhodes or Austin, both guys we may be looking at.

Best player available.

I would add Barrett Jones to that list, too.

Is there really a best player available selection? It is subjective not objective.

It's a 12 week rehab at most. He'll be fine by training camp.

Positions we have an immediate need for a significant upgrade:

FS (McDonald and move Berry to FS)
CB2 (not sure my preference here)
ILB ("")
TE2 (the kid from ND)
WR2 (Bailey is a life long friend of Geno and would be a smart draft pick)
WR3 (Austin)

I think I would call that TE1. I want Moeaki to prove me wrong, but so far it isn't happening. And having a big target out there would help a rookie QB.

Wouldn't mind seeing Jordan Reed, who is entering the draft early. He came to Florida as a QB and is leaving as our best TE since Hernandez. He was clutch this year and should only get better. Not sure where he will end up getting slotted in the draft though. Don't know anything about the ND TE.

Another guy to look at is CB Logan Ryan from Rutgers.

He's the guy who took over for Devin McCourty and has had a great career at Rutgers. 6 ft 190, has very good coverage skills and solid tackling skills in open space.

He's a 3rd round guy right now, but his character and hard work is very noticeable and it should launch him to the 2nd round somewhere.

Would love this kid in the 2nd or 3rd. Check him out if you get a chance.

Cut him? WTF?

If he doesn't fit in Reid's plan (which is yet to be determined), he's worth a late draft choice to someone.

Cutting him before training camp is just downright ****ing stupid.
