Tell me about living in Las Vegas

Seriously considering a move in the next month to two months. I have some great job opportunities out there, and my wife and BIL have more opportunity out there as well. As much as I love where I'm at, adult Disneyland doesn't sound too bad either for a guy with no children. I have some questions I'm hoping some folks here can answer for me.

1. Where do I NOT want to live around Vegas?

2. Are there some temporary places available for us until we find long term housing?

3. My BIL works in the restaurant industry, and low level jobs. He's slightly mentally disabled but has a very good work ethic, and is self sufficient. What are average wages for just above low level jobs out there? What kind of tip money could a busser make in a decent restaurant?

4. How easy is it to get a pot card? I've seen sleep apnea, and all sorts of crazy shit getting you one of these in other states. How relaxed is it? And are there stores I can buy it from, or do I have to procure it on my own?

I'm sure I'll think of more as I go along, and feel free to throw in any pertinent information you think I should be aware of. I appreciate the insight, and info in advance.

Always something to do, yet if you won't to have chill time that's good too.
Summerlin is great, Green Valley is good too. I live in Summerlin by Red Rock.
It's hot 2-3 months out of the year. Our yearly average is 80. We don't have ****ed weather stuff like tornados or hurricanes. It gets windy and allergies suck.
As far as weed is concerned, I don't know, but Cali isn't far.
Speaking of that, you are 3-4 hour drive from LA, the beach or 2-3 hours from kick ass hiking like Zion. We also have good hiking and outdoorsy stuff in Red Rock and Mt Charleston.
As far. Single life, it can be difficult, especially on men because of the stripper mentality here, but you won't mind that at first I'm sure
If you can make good money here, you will live well
Thanks for the input! The lifestyle is appealing, because of the income we'll be making. The idea of living in adult Disneyland was always cool, but I figured what's the point if we don't have the scratch to play? That won't be an issue, and I'm pretty excited about the prospects of always having something to do.

Also thanks for the prospects on some decent places to live. I'm bigger on neighborhood than I am on the home itself. It's pretty important to me. I hadn't considered the allergies, but that sucks. I never had a problem growing up in Seattle, but it's been ****ing brutal in Branson! Holy shit bad. Like, 9 ****ing months out of the year bad.

So the heat is really just July and August, and the rest of the time it's pretty nice? Someone mentioned humidity. I assumed there was none. What do you think?

1 more thing. How do you feel about Rush Box Lunch requests?

Yeah, getting to LA is a breeze especially if you rock the Pear Blossom Hwy route. And housing is damn good here if you can get past the investors. My house has increased in value by about 20k in the last year 2 years thankfully.

Expect that trend to continue. I've done my homework in that regards as my previous line of work was related in ways. You'll be very pleased 5 years from now.

Humidity isn't shit compared to most places on the planet, but it does exist.
Yeah, your s first summer will be tough, but then you get past it. Sometimes, it's just like extreme cold-you get In Your car, drive to where you need to go, get out and go inside just like you would if it was really ****ing cold.
If you're making good $, you will live like a king. You'll e able to live in a nice area with a bitchin house. Just get one with desert landscaping to help you with water bills.

Yeah, 15 years is a long time, especially considering Vegas was a boom town for almost a decade after you left.

When I moved here in 1998, the numbers were staggering...3k people moving out, 6-7k moving in monthly. Mind blowing. It's definitely chilled out the last 7 years...

This summer was actually really mild. Sometimes it's 110° plus for like two weeks and your like "**** cut me out of this skin." Wasn't like that this year. I love the winters. It never gets REALLY cold. I meet people from real cold and they wear shorts year round.

Traffic isn't that bad. Only three freeways to deal with, so check for accidents before you get on and you'll be golden. Lot of dummy's on the road, texting and Facebooking, that's the worst part, but I imagine most places are like that.

I live around Mountain's Edge, the new southwest, way the **** heading towards Red Rock, about twenty mins away. Very nice and quiet down here. With all the home market craziness, I feel like there are different kinds of people everywhere. People getting homes on the cheap and renting them out, the neighborhoods are changing. That being said, Summerlin is generally nice. Henderson has a different vibe to it then the rest of the valley. Not my cup of tea, but I don't get out much. East side and north Las Vegas are no no's in my book.

Having a one and a half year old, my wife and I are looking to move out of here once she gets her degree. The school system is lacking (it was shitty twenty years ago and I'm thinking it hasn't gotten better.) I'm not sure if it's everywhere, but kids seem to be more asshole-ish than when I grew up here. This city can be nice, but it can be vulgar and somewhat disgusting too. I like the good parts and I won't miss the shitty parts. Hope this helps.

I'm just curious if it's actually worse than Branson. Branson had a stretch a couple of July's ago where it was 105+ for a ****ing month and the humidity just drained the ever loving shit out of you. Death warmed over. I figured it couldn't be that bad. This year was mild, but I'm used to 100 in the summer and I was hoping a lack of humidity would ease that burden some. I didn't think it would add to it!

Yeah Dude, the heat is blistering in the summer. I've visited and it's 110 at night.

That said, it's not anything at all like Midwest heat. The humidity that Carlotta referenced is infinitesimal compared to Missouri or Florida heat. I often complain when it's "humid" in Los Angeles, only to find out it's like at 50%.

I wouldn't worry about the heat. All the homes have swimming pools, as do the apartment complexes and of course, work spaces have powerful air conditioning. That shouldn't even be a factor in your decision, IMHO.
