The worst thing family does on holidays...

Just interested in things family, in-laws, friends do to meals on Thanksgiving holidays?

Is it packaged gravy mix? Boxed stuffing? Burned turkey?

I've got a few... my father-in-law goes all out. From scratch everything. Except he throws the turkey drippings down the sink and makes McCormick's packaged gravy.

But that's not even the worst. He microwaves his turkey. Not even kidding. It's horrifying. But to be fair, it doesn't taste as bad as it sounds.

Lol.

I'm anticipating the family sitting around watching one of those home renovation shows on DIY Network and they give a hole patching demonstration and the room goes into an awkward silence with my wife finally reaching her breaking point and spouting off "dad! You could've killed mom!!!"

We are going to my SIL house this year. My Nephew has a new girlfriend who will talk nonstop about vegan organic gluten free bullsh*t. The worst part is trying to look her in the eye's and not looking down at really big boob's. My BIL's sister will be there that is a super Jewish liberal who will get in a big argument with my libertarian Son. Good Times.

My wife flipped shit and told her that wasn't going to happen and she'd be bring an enormous pot of real mashed potatoes.

My wife was an instant potatoes sort of gal before she met me. When we first moved in together she tried to buy a box of that shit, and I told her they weren't an option.

Instant mashed potatoes went off my menu the second I got married. It was ok for feeding myself, but...

And my wife makes the absolute best mashed potatoes ever. They are stunning.

The worst is really from the point of view of my wife. The first year we had Thanksgiving together, my mother made the bird. My family never ate the drumsticks -- I never even thought about it -- so my mother shows up with a cooked bird and my wife is like "errr...drumsticks?" (her favorite part, of course, her family would fight over them).

Mom: oh, I always throw them out.

This thread is great by the way. I think we all need to vent after being forced to be social with family.

Why would you throw them out? WTF?

I don't think they are the best or anything, but why would you waste perfectly good meat?

I, umm, honestly cannot tell you. What's really weird is that it's not like my family didn't eat chicken legs. Go to KFC, drumsticks, hooray! Cook turkey, my mother trashes the drumsticks. And she and my Dad grew up in the depression. When she died I must've thrown out, no lie, 100 of those stupid plastic cake-holder thingies. The ones that you get from a supermarket when you buy a cake. She would use them for whatever, and being Depression-era would keep shit like that forever.

But drumsticks -- into the trash.

I ate a drumstick-free turkey my entire childhood and never really even thought about it. Then my wife shows up on the scene and is like "WHAAAAAT?!?!"
